This week brought major developments across India’s commercial vehicle, electric mobility and agriculture sectors. August sales figures showed strong growth for Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Mahindra, TVS and Escorts Kubota, while Sonalika achieved record tractor sales and production. Meanwhile, UltraTech announced plans for 600+ electric trucks, Ashok Leyland accelerated battery localisation, and TAFE revealed a ₹1,250 crore investment for a new 60,000-unit tractor plant.
TVS Motor Appoints Peyman Kargar as New CEO, K. N. Radhakrishnan to Step Down in 2027
TVS Motor has appointed Peyman Kargar as its new CEO, effective January 27, 2027, succeeding K. N. Radhakrishnan. Kargar will focus on AI, technology, product innovation and global expansion. The leadership change follows a strong FY2025-26, with TVS Motor selling 5.9 million vehicles globally and international business contributing 29% of total sales volume. Radhakrishnan will continue supporting the company through July 2027.
OHM Global Mobility Launches 130 Electric Buses in Chennai Under MTC Phase 2 Programme
OHM Global Mobility has launched 130 air-conditioned electric buses in Chennai under MTC’s Phase 2 programme. These Switch-manufactured buses are part of a larger 500 e-bus deployment, with OHM managing operations, maintenance and charging support. The expansion builds on Phase 1, where OHM buses covered over 3 crore kilometres and achieved more than 99% schedule adherence, strengthening Chennai’s sustainable public transport network.
EIM Partners with OWS and Radiance to Deploy 500 Electric Heavy Trucks Across India
Energy In Motion (EIM), OWS and Radiance Green Mobility have partnered to deploy 500 electric heavy trucks across major Indian freight corridors. The first 50 Ashwa 55-ton electric tractors will begin operations on the Mumbai-Pune route in October 2026. EIM will develop battery-swapping and charging infrastructure, aiming to reduce freight costs, diesel dependence and emissions across key industrial transport routes.
SKG Investments Raises Rs 100 Crore for Omega Seiki Mobility, Invests in Second Tranche
SKG Investments & Advisory has completed a Rs 100 crore fundraise for Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM) in two Rs 50 crore tranches. Mahindra CV & 3W Sales Rise 28% to 42,337 Units in August 2026; Exports Surge 71%
Mahindra reported strong August 2026 sales, with domestic CV and three-wheeler sales rising 28% to 42,337 units. Three-wheelers led growth with a 42% increase to 14,922 units, while LCV sales also grew strongly. Commercial vehicle exports surged 71% to 6,054 units, highlighting robust demand across domestic logistics, last-mile mobility and international markets.
VECV August 2026 Sales Surge 17.7% to 8,434 Units as Eicher Demand Grows
VECV reported a strong August 2026 performance, with total sales rising 17.7% to 8,434 units. Domestic sales grew 19.8% to 7,584 units, led by a 29% jump in SCV/LMD truck sales. Volvo Trucks and Buses sales increased 11.9% to 272 units. However, total exports declined slightly by 2.5% to 578 units.
Tata Motors CV Sales Jump 49% to 44,411 Units in August 2026; Exports Surge 227%
Tata Motors reported strong commercial vehicle sales growth in August 2026, with total sales rising 49% to 44,411 units. Domestic CV sales increased 33% to 36,619 units, while exports surged 227% to 7,792 units. HCV Trucks led domestic growth with a 42% increase, followed by SCV Cargo & Pickup sales, which grew 34% to 14,447 units.
Ashok Leyland August 2026 Sales: 18,067 CVs Sold, Up 43.4% YoY
Ashok Leyland reported strong commercial vehicle sales in August 2026, with total sales rising 43.4% to 18,067 units. Domestic sales grew 43.6% to 17,315 units, while exports increased 39.5% to 752 units. M&HCVs were the biggest growth driver, with domestic sales surging 60% and total M&HCV sales rising 59.5%, supported by continued demand across key segments.
TVS Three-Wheeler Sales Rise 34% to 25,103 Units in August 2026
TVS Motor sold 25,103 three-wheelers in August 2026, up 34% from 18,748 units last year. Strong passenger and cargo demand drove growth, while electric three-wheelers continued gaining attention due to lower running costs and rising demand for cleaner mobility.
UltraTech to Deploy Over 600 Heavy-Duty Electric Trucks by December 2026
UltraTech Cement plans to deploy over 600 heavy-duty electric trucks by December 2026 across seven Indian states. The fleet will transport around 5 million MT of materials annually, potentially reducing over 1,17,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions and replacing the equivalent of 39 million litres of diesel each year. Ashok Leyland Plans 50-60% EV Battery Pack Localisation by 2027
Ashok Leyland aims to localise 50–60% of EV battery packs in India and is setting up a manufacturing facility near Chennai. Automotive battery pack production is expected to begin by the end of 2027. The company may also supply battery packs to other automakers and explore Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to increase production volumes and reduce dependence on imported EV components.
TAFE Expands Tractor Production With ₹1,250 Crore New Plant Investment
TAFE plans to invest up to ₹1,250 crore in its fifth tractor manufacturing plant in north India, with an annual capacity of 60,000 tractors. Expected to become operational within 18 months, the facility will strengthen TAFE's domestic presence and exports. The expansion follows strong annual sales of around 2.14 lakh tractors and will be TAFE's first greenfield plant in 29 years.
Mahindra Tractor Sales August 2026: Sales Rise 5%, Domestic Sales Reach 27,595 Units
Mahindra sold 29,507 tractors in August 2026, recording 5% year-on-year growth. Domestic sales rose 5% to 27,595 units, while exports stood at 1,912 units. Cumulative FY27 sales till August increased 16% to 2,21,968 units, supported by improved rainfall, near-normal Kharif sowing, positive rural sentiment and upcoming festive demand.
Escorts Kubota Tractor Sales August 2026: Sales Rise 19.1% to 10,072 Units
Escorts Kubota sold 10,072 tractors in August 2026, registering 19.1% year-on-year growth. Domestic sales increased 20.5% to 9,523 units, driven by favourable monsoon conditions and strong Kharif sowing, while exports declined slightly by 0.9%. From April to August FY27, total tractor sales rose 20.5% to 55,665 units.
VST Records 3,720 Units Sales in August 2026; Overall Sales Decline 17.3%
VST Tillers Tractors reported total sales of 3,720 units in August 2026, down 17.3% year-on-year. Power tiller sales fell 17.4% to 3,387 units, while tractor sales declined 16.5% to 333 units. Despite the August decline, cumulative April–August sales increased 3% to 24,634 units, supported by higher power tiller sales.
Swaraj Tractors Commissions 42 MWp Captive Solar Project in Punjab
Swaraj Tractors has commissioned a 42 MWp captive solar project in Bathinda, Punjab, expected to meet around 50% of its manufacturing electricity needs. The plant will generate approximately 61.54 million units annually, potentially offsetting over 42,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. Robotic cleaning systems are also expected to save 1.92 million litres of water annually.
Farmtrac Launches 6055 Classic Dark Edition and Expands PROMAXX 2.0 Tractor Range
Escorts Kubota has launched the Farmtrac 6055 Classic Dark Edition, India’s first all-black Farmtrac tractor, available in 2WD and 4WD. The company also introduced new 47 HP and 50 HP PROMAXX 2.0 models. With higher torque, advanced features and improved 4WD capability, the new tractors are designed for demanding farming and heavy-duty applications.
Sonalika Sells Record 12,581 Tractors in August 2026, Production Hits New High
Sonalika Tractors recorded its highest-ever August sales, selling 12,581 tractors across domestic and export markets in 2026. Its growth was 1.9 times higher than the estimated industry growth. The Hoshiarpur plant also achieved a record monthly production of 18,067 tractors, helping Sonalika prepare for festive season demand and strengthen its focus on the new Gold Series tractors.
