UltraTech to Deploy Over 600 Heavy-Duty Electric Trucks by December 2026

UltraTech Cement Limited, an Aditya Birla Group company, has announced plans to significantly expand the electrification of its logistics operations by deploying more than 600 heavy-duty electric trucks by December 2026.

The expanded electric truck fleet will transport around 5 million metric tonnes (MT) of clinker and other key materials annually across several Indian states. Once fully operational, the initiative is expected to reduce net carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by more than 1,17,000 tonnes every year and replace the equivalent of 39 million litres of diesel annually.

UltraTech Signs Agreements for EV Truck Deployment

UltraTech has signed service contracts with leading electric prime mover manufacturers, including Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, IPLTech, Energy in Motion and Sany. The company will also work with their subsidiaries and other third-party logistics providers to deploy the electric trucks.

The fleet of more than 600 EV trucks will operate across Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Odisha.

Focus on Greener Logistics and Net Zero Goals

K C Jhanwar, Managing Director of UltraTech Cement Limited, said that the company is extending its sustainability efforts beyond manufacturing plants by adopting greener logistics solutions.

He stated that the large-scale shift towards electric transportation reflects UltraTech's focus on decarbonising every part of its value chain and supports its commitment to achieving Net Zero.

Building on Earlier Green Logistics Initiatives

UltraTech has been an early adopter of sustainable transportation in the cement industry. The company introduced CNG trucks into its logistics operations in 2021 and began deploying electric trucks in 2024.

It was also the first cement company to deploy heavy-duty electric trucks at scale for the long-haul transportation of clinker and other materials.

Currently, UltraTech operates more than 850 trucks under its green logistics operations, including both CNG and electric vehicles.

Electrification Across the Supply Chain

With a grey cement capacity of over 200 MTPA in India, UltraTech manages one of the country's most complex logistics networks.

Its electrification strategy covers the complete supply chain, including transportation from mines to manufacturing plants and inter-plant movement of clinker and other important materials.

UltraTech Cement Limited is the cement flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group and a USD 10 billion building solutions company. The company has a total grey cement capacity of 205.5 MTPA and a White Cement and Putty capacity of 3.2 MTPA.

UltraTech is also a signatory to the GCCA Climate Ambition 2050 and has committed to the GCCA's Net Zero Concrete roadmap.
