Delhi will restrict the entry of commercial goods vehicles meeting BS-IV or older emission standards from November 1, 2026, as part of efforts to control air pollution and improve air quality in the national capital. The restriction will cover different categories of goods vehicles, including light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles.
However, CNG and electric commercial vehicles will be exempt from the ban. Diesel trucks and buses complying with BS-VI emission standards will also be allowed to enter Delhi. Buses registered in Delhi will remain exempt from the announced restrictions.
Which Commercial Vehicles Will Be Banned From Entering Delhi?
According to an advisory issued by the Gurugram traffic police, the restrictions will apply to commercial goods vehicles that comply with BS-IV or older emission standards.
The affected categories include:
Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs)
Medium Goods Vehicles (MGVs)
Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs)
Other trucks meeting BS-IV or older emission standards
The restrictions will also cover buses operating under All India Tourist Permits (AITPs) and other service arrangements. However, buses registered in Delhi will be exempt from these restrictions.
Transporters and commercial vehicle operators using older diesel vehicles should check the applicable entry rules before travelling to the national capital.
Which Vehicles Will Be Allowed to Enter Delhi?
The restrictions include exemptions for certain commercial vehicles based on their fuel type, emission standards and registration details.
The following vehicles will remain eligible to enter Delhi under the announced exemptions:
CNG commercial vehicles: Goods vehicles running on CNG will be exempt from the restriction.
Electric commercial vehicles: Electric trucks and other eligible electric commercial vehicles will be allowed to enter Delhi.
BS-VI diesel trucks and buses: Diesel commercial vehicles complying with BS-VI emission standards will remain eligible to enter the city.
Delhi-registered buses: Buses registered in Delhi will remain exempt from the announced bus restrictions.
These exemptions will allow eligible commercial vehicles to continue their operations while the authorities restrict the entry of older, more polluting vehicles.
Traffic Police Urge Transporters to Check Vehicle Documents
With the November 1 deadline approaching, Gurugram traffic police have advised transporters, drivers and bus operators to verify their vehicles emission standards and registration details before entering Delhi.
Vehicle operators should check whether their vehicles fall under the restricted categories and confirm that they meet the applicable entry requirements. They should also plan their routes in advance to avoid potential travel disruptions.
Checking vehicle documents before departure will help transporters make informed decisions about their journeys and ensure they account for the new restrictions.
Why Is Delhi Introducing These Restrictions?
The restrictions aim to control vehicular emissions, reduce air pollution and protect the environment. Older commercial vehicles that do not meet newer emission standards can contribute to air pollution, particularly in heavily trafficked urban areas.
By restricting the entry of BS-IV and older commercial goods vehicles while allowing specified cleaner alternatives, the authorities aim to support better air quality in Delhi.
Commercial vehicle operators should prepare for the November 1, 2026, deadline by reviewing their vehicle documents, checking applicable exemptions and making the necessary changes to their travel plans.
