The final week of August 2026 brought several important developments across India’s commercial vehicle, electric mobility, infrastructure and agriculture sectors. From a new leadership appointment at BharatBenz and fresh EV funding to 250 new buses in Tamil Nadu, the week saw major moves in transportation and mobility. Hyundai E3W and E4W Win Gold at 2026 IDEA Awards for Innovative Electric Mobility Design
Hyundai’s E3W and E4W electric micro-mobility concepts have won Gold at the 2026 IDEA Awards. Designed by Hyundai Genesis Global Design and co-developed with TVS Motor Company, they feature barrier-free floors, wheelchair access, flexible interiors and adjustable ride height. Their modular platform supports passenger, cargo and emergency applications, showcasing Hyundai’s vision for accessible, adaptable and practical electric mobility in crowded urban environments.
Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Flags Off 250 New Buses for MTC and TNSTC, Expands Electric Bus Push
Tamil Nadu CM C. Joseph Vijay flagged off 250 new buses worth ₹290.8 crore, including 130 low-floor AC electric buses for MTC and 120 buses for TNSTC. Chennai now operates 625 electric buses, with 750 more planned. The state is also expanding its TNSTC fleet, while announcing fare-free travel for women and three free LPG cylinders annually for eligible families under new welfare initiatives.
ICAT Certifies First 15-Metre Multi-Axle Sleeper Bus Under AIS-119 and AIS-153
ICAT has issued its first compliance certificate for a 15-metre multi-axle sleeper bus, awarded to Synaty Automotive under AIS-119 and AIS-153. Designed for long-distance travel, the bus meets safety, structural, fire protection and passenger comfort standards. The fully sleeper version offers 42 berths, while the hybrid variant provides 21 berths and 42 seats, offering flexibility for different intercity passenger transport requirements.
L&T Signs Distribution Agreement with FAYAT to Market BOMAG Road Equipment in India
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has partnered with FAYAT Road Equipment Division to market BOMAG road construction equipment across India. The portfolio includes road milling machines, soil stabilisers and cement spreaders. L&T will manage sales, spare parts and after-sales services through its nationwide network, supported by a central warehouse in Nagpur. The partnership aims to strengthen specialised equipment availability for India’s growing road and infrastructure sector.
Omega Seiki Mobility Raises Rs 50 Crore to Expand EV Capacity and Retail Network
Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM) has raised an additional ₹50 crore, taking its total fundraising this month to ₹100 crore. The company will use the funds to expand manufacturing, strengthen R&D, develop new EV platforms and grow its retail-service network from 150 to 250 touchpoints by FY28. OSM is also evaluating expansion into select African markets and preparing for its planned IPO as it continues its growth journey.
Haryana Farmers to Get Agricultural Machinery Subsidy Directly in Bank Accounts
Haryana farmers will get faster subsidies on eligible crop residue management machinery through DBT after prompt physical verification. Machines include Super Seeder, Happy Seeder, Baling Machine and Zero Till Seed Drill. The state also has 40.64 lakh quintals of wheat seed against a requirement of 17–18 lakh quintals. Officials have been directed to ensure adequate stocks of urea, DAP, NPK and SSP for the Rabi season.
Madhya Pradesh farmers will no longer face the March 31 deadline for agricultural loan repayment and can repay within one year as per their convenience. The government has also announced 0% interest advance fertilizer, allowing farmers to buy urea, DAP and NPK as needed. A statewide Farmer ID campaign began on August 20, while daytime irrigation electricity for gram and sugarcane farmers is planned from next year.
Basmati Rice Prices Rise Again: 1509 Sathi Jumps ₹250, Latest Rates of 1121, 1718 and 1885
Basmati rice prices showed selective gains across major markets. Rajasthan’s 1509 Sathi Creamy Sela rose sharply by ₹250 per quintal, while 1718, 1885 and PB1 varieties also recorded increases. However, key 1121 and 1718 Steam grades remained largely stable in Punjab-Haryana. Market direction will depend on fresh crop arrivals, domestic and export demand, rice miller buying activity and overall supply conditions.
CNH Industrial Plans ₹2,000 Crore Investment in India to Double Tractor Production by 2030
CNH Industrial plans to invest ₹2,000 crore in India by 2030, including a ₹1,000 crore tractor plant near Greater Noida and ₹1,000 crore for R&D. The expansion will double annual tractor capacity to 1.4 lakh units. With sales growing 42% in H1 2026, CNH targets double-digit market share, a top-four position and expansion of its dealer network from 600 to 900 by 2028.
Rajasthan Launches Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme for Horticultural Crops
Rajasthan has implemented the Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme for Kharif 2026 and Rabi 2026-27 across all 41 districts. The scheme covers notified commercial and horticultural crops against weather risks such as hailstorms, untimely rain and drought. Eligible loanee, non-loanee and sharecropper farmers can participate voluntarily, with premiums capped at 5%. An AgriStack ID is mandatory to avail insurance benefits under the scheme.
Wheat Market Continues to Rise as Prices Move Towards ₹3,000 Per Quintal
Wheat prices are showing a strong bullish trend, with Delhi reaching ₹2,940 per quintal and Indore, Hyderabad and Raipur crossing ₹3,000. Market support is around ₹2,850, while ₹2,950 is a crucial level before the ₹3,000 target. Strong domestic demand and positive global wheat futures are supporting the rally. However, rising arrivals, government intervention, stocks and international developments could influence future prices.
