Volvo Group is set to strengthen its focus on the mining industry by bringing its mining-related products, services, and operations under a dedicated business entity called Volvo Mining. The new organisation is scheduled to begin operations on January 1, 2027, with the aim of combining expertise and resources from across the Group to better serve mining customers.
The move reflects the growing importance of the mining sector and Volvo Group’s plans to deliver integrated solutions for mining companies and contractors worldwide.
Volvo Mining to Offer Trucks, Construction Equipment and Autonomous Solutions
Volvo Mining will bring together the Group’s capabilities in mining-related trucks, construction machinery, and autonomous solutions. It will be responsible for global product and service management for the mining segment, helping streamline operations and strengthen coordination across the business.
The new entity will also manage research and development projects involving different parts of Volvo Group. By combining expertise across its businesses, the company aims to support the development of solutions that meet the changing requirements of mining operations.
The consolidated structure is expected to create a more focused approach to serving the mining industry while improving collaboration across Volvo Group’s businesses and retail partner network.
Initial Operations to Focus on Nordic Markets
Volvo Mining will initially focus on customers and contractors in Sweden, Norway, and Finland. These markets will form the starting point for the new organisation before it expands into other international markets.
The company has not specified a timeline for expansion beyond these initial markets. However, the planned international rollout indicates that Volvo Mining is intended to serve a broader global customer base over time.
Volvo Group Highlights Growing Importance of Mining
Melker Jernberg, President of Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), said mining has been an important part of Volvo Group’s business for decades. He added that the industry’s increasing significance calls for a stronger and more dedicated focus.
“With Volvo Mining as our center of expertise, we are combining capabilities from across the Group to further enhance customer value in collaboration with our retail partners,” Jernberg said.
His comments underline the company’s intention to bring together its existing expertise and work more closely with retail partners to improve the value delivered to mining customers.
What the New Structure Means for Mining Customers
The establishment of Volvo Mining will create a dedicated organisational structure for the Group’s mining business. By coordinating product and service management, research and development, and expertise across its businesses, Volvo Group aims to provide a more integrated approach to mining solutions.
The focus on trucks, construction machinery, and autonomous technologies will bring key capabilities together under one entity. For mining companies and contractors, this could support more coordinated access to Volvo Group’s equipment and technology portfolio.
