The Rajasthan government has implemented the Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) to protect farmers from financial losses caused by adverse weather conditions and unexpected seasonal events. The scheme will remain applicable for two crop seasons, from Kharif 2026 to Rabi 2026-27, and will provide insurance cover for notified commercial and horticultural crops.
Under the scheme, farmers can receive protection against weather-related crop losses caused by events such as hailstorms, untimely rainfall and drought. The initiative is expected to provide greater financial security to farmers growing crops that are highly sensitive to sudden weather changes.
According to Agriculture Commissioner Naresh Kumar Goyal, the scheme will be implemented by the Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited (AIC). Various commercial and horticultural crops have been notified across all 41 districts of Rajasthan, allowing a large number of farmers to benefit.
The scheme is particularly important for horticultural crops because their production and quality can be directly affected by changes in rainfall, temperature and other weather conditions.

The final availability of insurance will depend on the crops notified for the farmer's respective district.
Eligible loanee, non-loanee and sharecropper farmers in Rajasthan can avail the benefits of the Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme. Participation in the scheme has been kept voluntary.
However, an AgriStack ID is mandatory for both loanee and non-loanee farmers seeking crop insurance under the scheme.
Farmers can also make changes to the crop covered under their insurance. The crop name can be changed until August 29, 2026.
Meanwhile, a loanee farmer who does not wish to remain covered under the scheme must submit a written declaration to the concerned bank or financial institution by August 24, 2026.
The scheme limits the premium burden on farmers. For notified commercial and horticultural crops, farmers will have to pay a maximum premium of 5 percent of the sum insured.
If the actual premium is higher than the prescribed 5 percent limit, the additional premium amount will be borne jointly by the Central and Rajasthan governments. This will help farmers access crop insurance protection against weather-related risks without facing a high premium burden.
Farmers can apply for insurance through several channels, including:
Nearest bank branch
Cooperative institutions
Regional rural banks
Common Service Centres (CSCs)
Post offices
Authorised insurance channels
Before applying, farmers should check whether their crop is notified in their district and understand the applicable insurance rules and deadlines.
The Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme is designed to provide financial protection against economic losses caused by adverse weather and notified weather events.
The scheme is especially useful for commercial and horticultural crops, where unusual weather conditions can affect both crop yield and quality. Insurance support can help farmers reduce financial risk, maintain greater stability and strengthen access to agricultural credit.
The Agriculture Department has advised farmers to understand the conditions applicable to their notified crop and district and complete the insurance process within the prescribed time to ensure they do not miss the opportunity to receive weather-based crop protection.

Rajasthan's Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme offers important financial protection to farmers growing commercial and horticultural crops against risks such as hailstorms, untimely rain and drought. Covering Kharif 2026 and Rabi 2026-27, the scheme limits farmers premium to 5 percent of the sum insured. Eligible farmers should check district-wise crop notifications, ensure they have an AgriStack ID and complete the insurance process before the applicable deadlines.
