As summer begins, water shortage becomes a big issue across many parts of the country. Drinking water becomes hard to find, and farmers struggle to irrigate their fields. To reduce this problem and promote water conservation, the government is encouraging farmers to build farm ponds. These ponds will help store rainwater, recharge groundwater, and improve farming conditions.
The amount of subsidy a farmer gets depends on their category and the type of pond (with or without plastic lining). Here's how much financial help is available:
Small, Marginal, SC/ST Farmers: 70% subsidy or up to ₹73,500
Other Farmers: 60% subsidy or up to ₹63,000
Small, Marginal, SC/ST Farmers: 90% subsidy or up to ₹1,35,000
Other Farmers: 80% subsidy or up to ₹1,20,000
Note: Subsidy is available only if the pond has a capacity of at least 1200 cubic meters. For ponds with a capacity over 400 cubic meters, a subsidy will be given on a pro-rata (proportional) basis.
