Tractor tyres and parts went down from 18% to 5%.
Irrigation systems GST cut to 5%.
Bio-pesticides and nutrients have been made cheaper.
Reform seen as festive relief for farmers.
In a historic move under the Next-Gen GST Reform, the Union Government has announced a major tax relief for farmers. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) on tractors, tractor tyres, farm machinery, bio-pesticides, micro-nutrients, drip irrigation, and sprinklers has been reduced to 5%, delivering a direct financial benefit to millions of farmers across the country.

The reform covers a wide range of agricultural equipment, such as soil preparation and cultivation machinery, harvesting and threshing machines, straw and fodder balers, grass and hay mowers, and composting equipment. By bringing down GST rates, the government aims to make farming more affordable, modern, and sustainable.
The GST Council cleared this decision as part of a broader package designed to reduce costs for priority sectors of the economy. For agriculture, this is one of the steepest tax relaxations since the GST system was launched in 2017.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the reform as a festive gift for farmers and citizens. He emphasized that it would not only ease the financial burden but also strengthen MSMEs, small entrepreneurs, and the overall economy.
“The next generation of GST reforms is a gift for every Indian this Diwali. Taxes for the general public will be reduced substantially. Our MSMEs and small entrepreneurs will get huge benefits. Everyday items will become cheaper, and this will also give a new boost to the economy,” said PM Modi.
Item | Old GST Rate | New GST Rate |
Tractor Tyres & Parts | 18% | 5% |
Tractors | 12% | 5% |
Bio-Pesticides & Micro-Nutrients | 12% | 5% |
Drip Irrigation & Sprinklers | 12% | 5% |
Agri, Horticultural & Forestry Machinery (soil preparation, cultivation, harvesting, threshing, balers, mowers, composters) | 12% | 5% |
Cheaper tractors and machinery: GST on tractors and implements has been cut from 12% to 5%, lowering initial investment.
Affordable irrigation systems: Drip and sprinklers now attract only 5% GST, promoting water-efficient farming.
Support for green farming: Bio-pesticides and micro-nutrients at 5% will encourage eco-friendly practices.
Lower maintenance costs: Tractor tyres and parts reduced from 18% to 5% will cut recurring expenses.
This GST reform is positioned as a “gift for every Indian,” but its strongest impact will be felt in the fields. Farmers will save more on inputs, gain easier access to modern technology, and prepare better for the upcoming Rabi season.
The move reflects the government’s long-term vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, making Indian agriculture more competitive, sustainable, and cost-efficient. More than just numbers, this decision promises lower cultivation costs, improved productivity, and stronger rural growth.

This measure is set to make farming more affordable, sustainable, and technology-driven, while also giving a new push to the rural economy.
