In policy news, the Supreme Court ruled LMV licenses valid for light commercial vehicles, and the government launched a ₹500 crore e-truck incentive scheme. In farming, PAU unveiled India’s first AI self-driving tractor, and tracking devices were proposed for haulage tractors. Rural housing funds were disbursed under PMAY, while PM Kisan payments remain delayed.
Let’s look at this week’s key stories.
Delhi to Build Second Automated Testing Centre for Commercial Vehicles at Nand Nagri

Delhi is set to build a new Automated Testing Centre (ATC) near Nand Nagri to test 72,000 commercial vehicles annually. This ₹2.5 crore facility will ease pressure on the overcrowded Jhuljhuli ATC and reduce delays. Equipped with modern tools and four testing lanes, it aims to double Delhi’s vehicle testing capacity, cut emissions, and boost road safety. The centre is expected to generate ₹3 crore annually and retain revenue by reducing out-of-state vehicle testing. Construction will be completed in 2–3 months.
Tata Motors Eyes CV Market Comeback with SCV Focus and Ace Pro Launch

Tata Motors domestic CV market share has dropped from 42% in FY19 to below 36% in FY25, mainly due to a sharp decline in its Small Commercial Vehicle (SCV) segment, falling from 66% to 53%. Chairman N Chandrasekaran acknowledged this underperformance, with plans to revive SCV sales through the new Ace Pro, offered in petrol, CNG, and EV variants. Tata is also restructuring its CV business into focused verticals to drive growth. The goal is to regain a 40% market share soon.
Zuperia Auto Enters Electric Passenger 3-Wheeler Market with New Launch and Growth Plans

Zuperia Auto has launched the Youdha epod electric three-wheeler at ₹2.79 lakh, aiming to sell 3,000 units by FY25. The company plans to expand its EV lineup with wider variants and a driver-plus-six seating option, alongside a new electric two-wheeler brand within two years. Operating from its Uttarakhand plant with a 1 lakh unit capacity, Zuperia targets ₹1,000 crore revenue by 2030. This strategic move marks Zuperia’s ambitious push to become a key player in India’s electric vehicle market.
Tata Motors in Talks to Buy Italy’s Iveco, Agnelli Family Exploring Options

Tata Motors is in talks to acquire a stake in Italy’s Iveco Group from Exor, excluding Iveco’s defence unit. Iveco shares rose nearly 10% following the news, while Italian trade unions urged government intervention. Any deal will be reviewed under Italy’s ‘golden power’ law due to Iveco’s strategic importance. Discussions are still in early stages, with other potential buyers reportedly involved. If successful, the deal could enhance Tata’s global presence, especially in Europe’s commercial vehicle market.
Supreme Court: LMV License Valid for Commercial Vehicles Under 7500 Kg

The Supreme Court ruled that a Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) license is valid for commercial vehicles up to 7500 kg. This verdict came in a case involving a Tata 407 accident, where the insurer denied liability due to a lack of a commercial license. The Court directed the insurer to pay ₹19.53 lakh compensation under the “pay and recover” principle. This ruling clarifies that LMV license holders can legally drive light commercial vehicles, ensuring fair compensation for victims and legal clarity for drivers.
SML Isuzu Reports 44% Profit Growth in Q1 FY26, Revenue Up by 13%

SML Isuzu reported a 44% rise in Q1 FY26 profit at ₹66.96 crore, with revenue growing 13% to ₹845.89 crore. EPS increased to ₹46.27, despite expenses rising to ₹758.40 crore. Mahindra & Mahindra will acquire a 58.96% stake, with CCI approving the deal in June 2025. The company’s strong financials and upcoming ownership shift mark a significant growth phase for its commercial vehicle business.

PM E-Drive Scheme for Electric Trucks: 5,600 Vehicles to Get Incentives in FY2026

India launched the ₹500 crore PM E-Drive scheme to support 5,600 e-truck purchases in FY2026. Buyers get 8–10% discounts, targeting N2 (3.5–12T) and N3 (12–55T) trucks with strict performance norms. The plan also supports EV parts manufacturing, charging stations, and testing facilities. E-trucks could be 15–20% cheaper to own than diesel trucks. The scheme aims to make clean freight transport viable, efficient, and cost-effective for India’s logistics sector.

Now the Tractor Will Run on Its Own! PAU Unveils AI-Enabled Self-Driving Tractor

Govt Proposes Mandatory Location Tracking Devices for Haulage Tractors from October 2026

The Ministry of Road Transport will mandate Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD) with RFID in haulage tractors from October 1, 2026, and Event Data Recorders (EDR) from April 1, 2027. These will enable real-time tracking, trailer pairing, and critical event data recording to improve road safety and transport monitoring. Trailers must have RFID tags. Public comments on the draft notification are invited within 30 days. The move promotes safer, more efficient commercial vehicle operations using advanced technology in India.
PM Awas Yojana 2025: ₹160 Crore Transferred to 40,000 Beneficiaries

Under PMAY-Gramin, ₹160 crore was transferred to 40,000 rural beneficiaries, each receiving ₹40,000 as the first housing installment. Additionally, 12,000 families received keys to new pucca houses. The total aid of ₹1.20 lakh is given in three stages, with construction to be completed in 12 months. PM Modi also launched ₹7,200 crore projects in Bihar, including ₹162 crore for housing. The scheme continues to boost rural housing, ensuring shelter, sanitation, electricity, and clean energy access for poor families.
PM Kisan 20th Installment Delayed: Know Why and What Farmers Should Do

The PM Kisan 20th installment of ₹2000 is delayed, with the 19th released on 24 February 2025. PM Modi’s ongoing foreign tour is a likely reason, as he usually announces the release. It is expected between 27–31 July 2025. No official reason for the delay is listed on pmkisan.gov.in. Farmers must complete e-KYC to receive the payment. They should avoid fake news, verify updates only through official channels, and ensure Aadhaar linking and accurate land records to avoid delays.
That wraps up this week’s major updates in India’s commercial vehicle, electric mobility, and agriculture sectors. From Delhi’s new vehicle testing push and Tata’s SCV revival to AI-driven tractors and fresh EV incentives, the focus on smarter, cleaner, and more efficient mobility continues to grow.
