Key Highlights

  • Combined annual sales volume of approximately 590,000 vehicles.

  • Combined annual revenue of around €21 billion (₹2.28 lakh crore).

  • Operations across more than 130 countries.

  • 27 manufacturing facilities and 25 R&D centres.

Tata Motors and Iveco Group have officially begun operating as a combined global commercial vehicle (CV) enterprise, bringing together their vehicle portfolios, engineering capabilities, manufacturing facilities and international distribution networks. The combination creates one of the world's largest commercial vehicle manufacturers, with annual sales of approximately 590,000 vehicles and combined revenues of around €21 billion (approximately ₹2.28 lakh crore).

The announcement was made at a global press conference in Turin, Italy, on November 3, 2026, following the completion of the tender offer for Iveco Group in late October 2026.

The combined enterprise will operate across more than 130 countries, supported by 27 manufacturing facilities, 25 research and development (R&D) centres and approximately 9,300 sales and service locations. With a workforce of more than 73,000 employees across six continents, the business has been ranked the world's fourth-largest commercial vehicle manufacturer by truck sales volumes in the above-6-tonne segment.

The combination brings together Tata Motors strong presence in India and other emerging markets with Iveco Group's established operations across Europe and Latin America, creating a wider international platform for commercial mobility solutions.

Tata Motors and Iveco Aim to Strengthen Global Commercial Mobility

The combination is designed to bring together the engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, distribution and customer service capabilities of both companies. It will also provide greater opportunities to develop new commercial vehicle technologies and expand their presence in international markets.

N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, Tata Motors and Iveco Group, said the combined business would focus on long-term investments, technology development and the exchange of engineering and operational expertise between the two organisations.

He clarified that the combination should not be viewed simply as a consolidation exercise but as a step towards preparing both businesses for future industry requirements. According to him, the financial strength and larger operational scale will help the enterprise invest in next-generation commercial vehicle technologies and respond to changing regulations and market demands.

Girish Wagh, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors, highlighted the complementary strengths of both companies. He said the combination would expand their ability to serve different commercial mobility requirements, ranging from sub-one-tonne pickup trucks to 55-tonne heavy-duty trucks and passenger vehicles with seating capacities of 10 to 51 passengers.

Wagh also pointed to the opportunity to serve customers across different markets, whether through pickups in India, buses in Latin America or heavy-duty trucks in European markets.

Complementary Commercial Vehicle Portfolios Across Global Markets

One of the biggest advantages of the Tata Motors-Iveco combination is the complementary nature of their commercial vehicle portfolios.

Tata Motors brings its established commercial vehicle business in India, Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. Its product range includes small commercial vehicles, pickups, intermediate and heavy commercial vehicles, with cargo-carrying capacities ranging from below one tonne to 55 tonnes.

The company also offers passenger mobility solutions, including buses and other commercial passenger vehicles with seating capacities ranging from 10 to 51 passengers.

Iveco Group adds its light, medium and heavy commercial vehicle portfolio, along with city and intercity buses. Its established presence in Europe and Latin America provides Tata Motors with access to additional markets and customer segments.

Through its powertrain business, FPT Industrial, Iveco also brings engine technologies for commercial vehicles, agricultural machinery, construction equipment, marine applications and stationary power generation.

Together, these capabilities will allow the combined enterprise to offer a wider range of vehicles, buses and industrial powertrain solutions for different customer requirements.

FPT Industrial Opens New Growth Opportunities for Tata Motors

Beyond commercial vehicles, one of the important opportunities emerging from the combination is Tata Motors access to FPT Industrial's powertrain business.

FPT is a major part of Iveco Group's industrial operations and manufactures engines for trucks, buses, agricultural equipment, construction machinery, marine vessels and stationary power generation.

Tata Motors sees considerable potential to expand FPT's industrial applications, particularly in markets where demand for power generation solutions is increasing.

One emerging opportunity is the growing requirement for backup power systems for data centres and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. As computing facilities expand globally, reliable power generation is becoming increasingly important, creating opportunities for industrial engine manufacturers.

During the press conference, Girish Wagh described FPT as a valuable part of Iveco Group and highlighted its potential to grow beyond traditional commercial vehicle applications.

He also pointed out that Tata Motors South Korean subsidiary, Tata Daewoo, has been sourcing FPT engines for approximately two decades, providing an existing connection between the two businesses.

FPT Engines to Support Tata Motors Expansion in India, Africa and ASEAN

In India, Tata Motors has a 30-year joint venture with Cummins Inc. for supplying engines exclusively for its heavy commercial vehicle segment. The company confirmed that its existing Cummins partnership will continue unchanged.

However, Tata Motors plans to explore the use of FPT powertrains across its non-heavy commercial vehicle portfolio in India. According to the company, this segment is approximately three times larger by volume than its heavy truck business, offering considerable opportunities for expansion.

The company also sees potential to introduce FPT industrial engines through its existing distribution network in Africa and Southeast Asia, including ASEAN markets.

This strategy could help FPT expand its presence in commercial and non-automotive industrial applications while allowing Tata Motors to strengthen its powertrain offerings across different markets.

Iveco to Retain Its Turin Headquarters and Existing Brand Identity

Despite the operational combination, Tata Motors and Iveco Group will continue to maintain their individual brands and industrial identities.

Iveco Group will retain its headquarters in Turin, Italy, along with its existing teams, engineering capabilities and industrial footprint. Its established brands, including IVECO, FPT, IVECO BUS, HEULIEZ and IVECO CAPITAL, will continue to operate under their respective identities.

Tata Motors will support Iveco's existing business strategy, capital expenditure and product investment plans in Europe. Both organisations will work together on engineering, technology development and opportunities to expand their international market presence.

Olof Persson, CEO of Iveco Group, said the combination would allow the company to build on its existing brands, employees and industrial capabilities while benefiting from Tata Motors commercial vehicle expertise and international reach.

Existing Customer, Dealer and Supplier Relationships to Continue

Tata Motors and Iveco Group have also confirmed that the operational transition will not affect existing customer and business partner arrangements.

Existing customer contracts, dealer and supplier relationships, warranties, aftermarket commitments and captive financing solutions will continue unchanged.

Customers and business partners will continue receiving support through their existing teams, dealerships and service networks. Maintaining business continuity will remain an immediate priority as both organisations begin working as a combined global enterprise.

Over the longer term, the companies aim to expand customer choice, accelerate innovation and develop commercial mobility solutions for different international markets.

The combination of Tata Motors and Iveco Group marks an important development in the global commercial vehicle industry. With approximately 590,000 annual vehicle sales, €21 billion in revenue and operations across 130 countries, the enterprise gains significant international scale. Beyond trucks and buses, FPT Industrial creates opportunities in power generation, marine and industrial applications. The focus will now be on technology investment, market expansion and delivering long-term growth.
