Michelin has launched its new MICHELIN X Multi Energy Z2 truck and bus tyre in India, targeting improved fuel efficiency, longer tyre life and lower operating costs for commercial vehicle fleet operators. Manufactured in India and developed specifically for local road and operating conditions, the new tyre is designed to help fleet owners reduce their Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

According to Michelin, the new tyre delivers up to 13% fuel savings compared with leading competitors, along with up to 25% longer tyre life in specific sizes. The tyre will be available across India from 1 November 2026 through all Michelin Tyres & Service stores and approximately 300 authorised dealers.

Michelin X Multi Energy Z2: Fuel Savings and Performance

Fuel expenses account for approximately 50% of a fleet's overall operating expenditure. Michelin aims to address this major cost through the X Multi Energy Z2's improved fuel efficiency.

According to the company's internal testing, the tyre delivers:

  • Up to 6% fuel savings in the 295/80R22.5 tubeless size.

  • Up to 13% fuel savings in the 295/90R20 tubeless size.

Michelin said these savings could improve a fleet's overall margins by up to 3% while reducing CO2 emissions by up to 8 tonnes.

The fuel efficiency tests were conducted on new tyres between 22 and 28 June 2026 on the Namakkal-Dindigul highway in India. The testing involved an Ashok Leyland 16-wheeler 4825 truck and was carried out by Michelin's Research & Development teams under highway operating conditions.

Up to 25% Longer Tyre Life and Improved Strength

Apart from fuel savings, the MICHELIN X Multi Energy Z2 is designed to deliver longer service life. Michelin claims that it offers up to 25% more tyre life than its nearest competitor in the same size, specifically the 295/80R22.5 variant.

This improvement is supported by Michelin's Carbion blend, which creates a stronger and more consistent tread compound to support longer tyre life.

The company also claims that the tyre provides 11% better summit strength than leading competitors, helping reduce the chances of tyre-related downtime and supporting better fleet productivity. This performance was tested at Michelin's Chennai factory in July 2026.

Better Grip, Handling and Road Stability

The new truck and bus tyre also focuses on improved road handling and stability in different driving conditions.

For the 295/80R22.5 size, Michelin claims better wet and dry handling compared with leading competitors in the same size. This performance is supported by its patented InfiniCoil+ technology, which optimises the tyre's contact patch and helps maintain stability throughout its service life.

Michelin also claims that the tyre offers up to 5% larger footprint area, helping improve road grip and traction. The footprint performance test was conducted at the company's Chennai factory in July 2026.

Michelin X Multi Energy Z2 Developed and Manufactured in India

The MICHELIN X Multi Energy Z2 has been developed for Indian operating conditions and tested on Indian highways. It is manufactured at Michelin's Chennai plant, which the company says operates with a zero-carbon footprint and sources nearly 45% of its energy requirements from renewable sources.

The tyre also incorporates up to 30% recyclable materials, reflecting Michelin's focus on developing more sustainable mobility solutions.

The launch is further supported by Michelin's range of services, including tyre management, tyre monitoring and fleet management solutions. These services are intended to help fleet operators monitor tyre performance, improve maintenance practices and manage operating costs more effectively.

Michelin India MD on the New Truck Tyre Launch

Commenting on the launch, Shantanu Deshpande, Managing Director, Michelin India, said that commercial vehicle fleet owners are increasingly looking beyond the initial purchase price of tyres and focusing on their overall value throughout their service life.

He highlighted that the MICHELIN X Multi Energy Z2 combines fuel efficiency, longer tyre life and improved robustness to help reduce fleet operating expenses.

He added that the tyre's claimed fuel savings of up to 13%, 25% higher mileage and 11% better ply strength, enabled by Michelin's Duracore technology, are aimed at helping operators improve productivity and strengthen profit margins.

Michelin also reiterated its commitment to providing Indian fleet owners with locally relevant mobility solutions that make every kilometre more productive.
