Partnerships with charging point operators across India.
Focus on EVs, CNG, LNG, hydrogen engines, and fuel cells.
On World EV Day 2025, VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Limited, announced major progress in electric mobility and sustainable manufacturing. The company highlighted its ecosystem-driven approach, covering vehicles, charging infrastructure, connected services, and renewable energy integration.
VECV expanded its electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of the Eicher Pro X Small Truck, Eicher 2055 EV, and Eicher Skyline Pro Electric bus. The Skyline Pro Electric buses are already running in several cities, serving schools, staff transport, and airport services. These products aim to strengthen last-mile and urban mobility solutions in India.
Currently, 42% of VECV’s energy needs are met through renewable sources, backed by a 75 MW captive solar capacity. The company targets increasing renewable energy usage to 70% by FY2027.
The Bhopal manufacturing facility plays a central role in this strategy. Equipped with Industry 4.0 technologies, including AI-driven energy monitoring systems, it also operates with an all-women assembly line. The plant integrates green design elements such as a 52-million-liter rainwater harvesting system, capable of supporting production for four months. VECV also aims to become water-positive by 2030.
To support EV adoption, VECV has tied up with charging point operators, giving Eicher customers seamless access to charging stations across India. This initiative strengthens the company’s ecosystem approach and makes EV ownership more convenient.
Beyond EVs, VECV continues its innovation in alternative fuel technologies, including CNG, LNG, hydrogen internal combustion engines (H2ICE), and hydrogen fuel cells. The company also played a leading role in introducing BS-VI-compliant vehicles in 2019, showing its focus on sustainable mobility.
VECV operates as a multi-brand, multi-division company, covering Eicher-branded trucks and Eicher buses, Volvo buses, Volvo truck distribution in India, engine manufacturing for Volvo Group exports, non-automotive engines, and component manufacturing.
By expanding its EV lineup, investing in renewable energy, and building inclusive and sustainable manufacturing systems, VECV is aligning its strategy with India’s net-zero emission targets. Since its establishment in August 2008, the company has been driving the modernization of commercial transportation in India and other developing markets.
