Key highlights

  • BEM and HPCL operationalise Bhiwandi’s first electric heavy-duty truck battery-swapping station.

  • Battery swapping takes less than five minutes, reducing truck downtime.

  • The facility strengthens the Mumbai-Pune Electric Freight Corridor, launched in October 2025.

  • Public EV charging will serve two-wheelers, four-wheelers and commercial vehicles.

  • BEM operates over 1,400 green trucks and has crossed 150 million green kilometres.

Blue Energy Motors (BEM) has operationalised Bhiwandi’s first battery-swapping station for electric heavy-duty trucks in partnership with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). The new facility, inaugurated on October 26, 2026, will strengthen electric freight infrastructure in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and extend the Mumbai-Pune Electric Freight Corridor.

Located in Bhiwandi, one of the region’s key logistics and warehousing hubs, the station marks an important milestone in the strategic partnership between Blue Energy Motors and HPCL, announced in January 2026. The development supports the growing adoption of electric heavy-duty trucks by making energy replenishment faster and more convenient for freight operators.

Battery Swapping in Less Than Five Minutes

The new battery-swapping station allows Blue Energy Motors electric heavy-duty trucks to replace their discharged batteries with charged ones in less than five minutes. This significantly reduces the time vehicles spend waiting for energy replenishment compared with conventional charging methods.

Faster battery swapping can help fleet operators reduce downtime, improve vehicle utilisation and maintain smoother freight operations. These benefits are particularly important for heavy-duty trucks that cover long distances and operate on demanding commercial schedules.

By addressing one of the key operational challenges associated with electric freight, the facility aims to make electric trucking more practical for logistics companies and transport operators.

Mumbai-Pune Electric Freight Corridor Gets a Boost

The Bhiwandi facility strengthens the Mumbai-Pune Electric Freight Corridor, launched by Blue Energy Motors in October 2025. The expansion of battery-swapping infrastructure along important freight routes can help support the use of electric heavy-duty trucks for commercial transportation.

Bhiwandi plays an important role in the movement of goods because of its extensive warehousing and logistics activity. Establishing a dedicated battery-swapping facility in this location can improve operational convenience for fleets serving Mumbai and other connected freight markets.

The development also reflects Blue Energy Motors broader strategy of building an ecosystem that combines electric trucks, energy infrastructure and operational support to encourage the wider adoption of green freight solutions.

HPCL Station Also Offers Public EV Charging

Apart from supporting electric heavy-duty trucks, the facility integrates a public EV charging station within HPCL’s established retail network. The charging infrastructure will serve electric two-wheelers, four-wheelers and commercial vehicles.

This makes the location more than a dedicated energy facility for freight trucks. It will also function as a multi-segment electric vehicle energy hub, catering to different categories of EV users.

The combined approach brings battery swapping for heavy-duty commercial vehicles and conventional EV charging infrastructure under one location. It also demonstrates how established fuel retail networks can expand their role by supporting the changing energy requirements of India's transportation sector.

Blue Energy Motors Highlights Its Partnership with HPCL

Commenting on the development, Anand Mimani, CEO - EV & New Energy Business at Blue Energy Motors, said the company is focused on making electric freight a practical and scalable solution in India.

He highlighted that the partnership with HPCL combines the strengths of both companies to develop the energy infrastructure required to support the transition to electric transportation.

Mimani also noted that Bhiwandi is an important market because of its strong freight and logistics activity. He described the new facility as a meaningful step forward and said the company looks forward to expanding its network of battery-swapping and charging facilities across key markets.

The planned expansion will support electric trucking while also catering to the wider electric vehicle ecosystem.

Partnership Supports India's Electric Mobility Transition

The commissioning of Bhiwandi’s battery-swapping station highlights the role that partnerships between vehicle manufacturers and energy companies can play in developing India's electric mobility infrastructure.

As freight operators explore the shift towards electric vehicles, access to reliable energy infrastructure remains an important consideration. Battery swapping can help reduce waiting time, while public charging stations can support other EV users and broaden the reach of charging infrastructure.

HPCL’s existing retail network provides a platform for expanding these services across relevant locations. By combining vehicle technology, energy infrastructure and an established retail presence, the partnership aims to create better conditions for electric commercial vehicles to operate on Indian roads.

The initiative also reflects a wider change in the transportation industry, where energy providers are increasingly positioned to support both conventional fuel requirements and emerging electric mobility needs.

Blue Energy Motors Crosses 150 Million Green Kilometres

Blue Energy Motors is advancing green freight mobility through its electric and liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered heavy-duty truck solutions. The company has more than 1,400 green heavy-duty trucks operating across key freight routes in India. Together, these trucks have covered over 150 million green kilometres on Indian roads.

According to the company, this milestone has helped reduce carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by more than 44,000 tonnes. The emissions reduction is equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of approximately 1.8 million trees.

These figures highlight the company's efforts to promote lower-emission freight transportation through alternative-fuel and electric heavy-duty truck technologies. The new battery-swapping facility in Bhiwandi adds another layer to these efforts by strengthening the infrastructure needed to support electric trucks in commercial operations.

CMV360 Says

Blue Energy Motors new battery-swapping station in Bhiwandi strengthens the Mumbai-Pune Electric Freight Corridor by enabling electric heavy-duty trucks to replace batteries in less than five minutes. Its partnership with HPCL also brings public EV charging for two-wheelers, four-wheelers and commercial vehicles. With over 1,400 green trucks and 150 million green kilometres achieved, BEM continues to expand its lower-emission freight solutions and support India's electric mobility transition.
