Farmers in Bihar can now get a subsidy on certified seeds of 10 improved sugarcane varieties. The Bihar government’s Sugarcane Industry Department has invited online applications from farmers to avail of this benefit. The subsidy aims to help farmers increase crop yield at a lower cost and improve their economic condition.

Farmers who wish to receive subsidized certified sugarcane seeds must apply online by March 1, 2025. Applications can be submitted on the official website of the Sugarcane Industry Department, ccs.bihar.gov.in. Farmers can choose the variety they prefer. For additional details, they can contact the Assistant Director of Sugarcane Development, Sugarcane Officer Office, or Sugar Mill.
To apply, farmers must have a DBT number issued by the Agriculture Department. New farmers can register on the portal using their Aadhaar card to obtain the number and complete the application process.
The Bihar government has launched the Mukhyamantri Sugarcane Development Scheme to boost sugarcane production and increase farmers income. Under this scheme, farmers are eligible for subsidies on the following 10 improved sugarcane varieties:

The subsidy will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

General category farmers will get a subsidy of Rs. 210 per quintal of certified seeds.
Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) farmers will receive Rs. 240 per quintal.
The subsidy will be applicable for a maximum area of 1 hectare (2.5 acres).
Farmers producing base seeds will get an incentive grant of Rs. 60,000 per quintal.
For intercropping sugarcane with lentil, mustard, or garma moong, the government will provide a 50% subsidy per acre on seed price.
Additional Grants for Farmers The Bihar government is also providing subsidies for other farming activities:
50% subsidy (up to Rs. 2,500 per hectare) on insecticides and fungicides to protect crops from pests and diseases.
Rs. 15,000 per acre for transplanting sugarcane seedlings using the bud chip/single bud method (for up to 1 acre).
Subsidy Payment Process The government will verify the application in two phases:
Approval letter issuance: After the first verification, the farmer will receive an approval letter for seed purchase.
Field verification: After planting the seeds, the farmer must upload the purchase receipt on the portal within 7 days. The Sugarcane Industry Department will conduct a physical verification before transferring the subsidy amount to the farmer’s bank account.
Interested farmers should apply soon to benefit from this scheme and enhance their sugarcane yield at a reduced cost.
