The government has implemented several measures to boost agricultural production and farmer welfare. These include providing a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops and extending fertiliser subsidies. Chouhan emphasized that these initiatives have contributed to a significant rise in farm incomes across the country.
In addition to MSP and subsidies, the government has focused on strengthening the cooperative sector. Minister of State for Cooperation, Krishan Pal, informed the Lok Sabha that Rs 5 lakh crore has been disbursed to the cooperative sector over the past five years. This funding aims to enhance the role of cooperatives in supporting farmers and improving rural livelihoods.
The claim of doubling farmers’ incomes has sparked debate among lawmakers. TMC leader Saugata Roy questioned whether the government had fulfilled its promise to double farm incomes. In response, Chouhan reiterated the government’s commitment and cited the reported income growth.
During the session, Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav pressed for additional questions, leading Speaker Om Birla to urge members to keep questions and responses brief. The debate reflects ongoing scrutiny of the government’s agricultural policies and their effectiveness in improving farmers’ economic conditions.
The government continues to prioritize policy support, subsidies, and cooperative sector development. These efforts aim to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure farmer welfare. While the actual extent of income doubling remains contested, the government’s strategy centers on sustained reforms and financial assistance to drive growth in India’s agriculture sector.
