Camps were organized at major sugar mills in February.
The scheme aims to cut labor costs and boost yield.
The Bihar government has taken a big step to modernize sugarcane farming and make it more profitable for farmers. Under the Sugarcane Mechanization Scheme, run by the Sugarcane Industry Department, 324 farmers have been issued permits to purchase agricultural machinery at subsidized rates.
This scheme aims to promote the use of modern machines in sugarcane production, reduce dependence on manual labor, and lower overall farming costs.
According to the department, 324 farmers have received official permits to purchase machines under the scheme. More than 300 farmers have already bought equipment used for different farming activities, from field preparation to sugarcane harvesting.
Farmers are receiving a 50 to 60 percent subsidy on the cost of these machines. This financial support is helping them adopt modern agricultural technology without facing heavy investment pressure.
The state government believes that mechanization will increase production capacity and improve farmers income in the long run.
To ensure complete mechanization of sugarcane farming, the scheme covers 11 types of machines. These include:
Disc harrows
Hydraulic disc harrows
Power weeders
Power tillers
Land levelers
Laser levelers
Ratoon management devices
Rotavators
Mini tractors with 4WD
Tractor-mounted hydraulic sprayers
Sugarcane cutter planters
These machines help farmers complete plowing, leveling, sowing, spraying, and harvesting in less time and at lower cost. With the use of modern equipment, crop quality is also expected to improve.
To spread awareness and help farmers book machines, the Sugarcane Industry Department organized mechanization camps at different sugar mills across Bihar in February.
Camps were held:
On February 5 and 6 at Bagaha, Lauria, Majhauliya, Narkatiaganj, and Harinagar sugar mills
On February 9 and 10 at Sugauli, Sidhwalia, Vishnu, and Pratappur sugar mills
On February 11 and 12, at the Hasanpur sugar mill in Samastipur district
On February 13 and 14 at the Riga sugar mill in the Sitamarhi district
During these camps, farmers were informed about the scheme and the application process. Many farmers made advance bookings, and several completed their machine purchases on the spot.
The department has announced that similar camps will be organized in other districts in the future so that more sugarcane growers can benefit.
K. Senthil Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Sugarcane Industry Department, said that selected farmers are being granted permits to purchase machinery at subsidized rates. He explained that the Sugarcane Mechanization Scheme will make farming more practical and profitable.
He also said that the government’s goal is to improve technology in sugarcane production and reduce farmers dependence on labor. According to him, the use of machines will save time, reduce labor costs, and improve crop quality.
The Bihar government’s Sugarcane Mechanization Scheme has brought major relief to sugarcane farmers in the state. With a 50 to 60 percent subsidy on 11 types of agricultural machines, farmers can reduce expenses and increase production.
In the coming months, the scheme will be expanded to cover more districts and benefit more sugarcane-producing farmers.
For more details about the scheme, farmers can contact their nearest Sugarcane Industry Department office or the concerned sugar mill. Information about eligibility and the application process is also available at the District Agriculture Officer’s office.
The Sugarcane Mechanization Scheme is proving to be a major support for sugarcane farmers in Bihar. With subsidies of up to 60 percent on 11 types of machines, farmers can adopt modern technology at a lower cost. The initiative is helping reduce labor dependence, save time, and improve crop quality. As the scheme expands to more districts, it is expected to strengthen sugarcane production and increase farmers income across the state.
