  • Electronic controls and zero-till technology aim to reduce seed, fertiliser, fuel and labour costs.

Mahindra & Mahindra has started commercial production and supply of its MaxSeeder zero-till seeding machine in India. Manufactured under licence from Canada-based Clean Seed Technologies, the machine is being produced at Mahindra’s farm machinery plant in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh.

The MaxSeeder will initially be available through Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Business dealerships in Punjab and Haryana, followed by a phased expansion across India. Designed for tractors with 35 HP or above, the machine aims to help farmers reduce sowing costs, save time and manage paddy residue without burning stubble.

Mahindra MaxSeeder: Features and Farming Applications

The MaxSeeder is a zero-till, multi-crop seeding machine designed to sow rice, wheat, soybean, maize and cotton. It allows seeds to be planted directly into fields containing paddy residue while keeping soil disturbance to a minimum. This reduces the need for extensive field preparation and provides farmers with an alternative to stubble burning.

Field trials in Punjab and Haryana demonstrated the machine’s ability to sow crops in fields with heavy paddy residue. Its zero-till system can also help reduce fuel consumption, labour requirements, and seed and fertiliser wastage.

The tractor-trailed machine features five independent planting row units, adjustable row spacing and multiple metering configurations. These features allow farmers to adapt the machine to different crops and field conditions without requiring a higher-horsepower tractor.

Electronic Controls for Precision Seeding

The MaxSeeder uses an electronic control unit (ECU) to regulate the application of seeds, diammonium phosphate (DAP) and urea according to field requirements. Farmers can operate the system through a mobile phone application.

Its multifunctional tine places urea approximately 1.5 inches below the seed line, helping improve fertiliser placement and minimise wastage. The machine’s adjustable configurations are also designed to support equipment utilisation across different crops and farming applications.

Mahindra and Clean Seed Technologies on the Partnership

Veejay Nakra, President of Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Business, said the partnership brings together Clean Seed Technologies’ precision seeding technology and Mahindra’s manufacturing capabilities. The collaboration aims to expand access to mechanised farming solutions in India and international markets.

Graeme Lempriere, Chairman and CEO of Clean Seed Capital Group, described the start of production at Mahindra as an important milestone in the companies’ collaboration on seeding and planting solutions.

The MaxSeeder strengthens Mahindra’s presence in farm machinery and precision agriculture, complementing its existing tractor business with equipment designed to improve sowing efficiency and support more sustainable farming practices.

CMV360 Says

Mahindra’s MaxSeeder introduces a precision seeding solution for Indian farmers, particularly those managing paddy residue after rice harvesting. With compatibility for tractors rated at 35 HP or above, electronic seed and fertiliser controls, and support for multiple crops, it is designed to simplify sowing operations. Its initial rollout in Punjab and Haryana will be followed by a phased expansion across India, potentially helping farmers reduce fuel use, labour needs and field preparation costs.
