The retrofit option is promoted as an opportunity for operators to potentially save money over purchasing new diesel or CNG vehicles.
SUN Mobility Launches Retrofit Kits for Tata ACE Vehicles

Key Highlights:

  • SUN Mobility's retrofit kits convert Tata ACE vehicles to electric using battery swapping technology.
  • The retrofit could cut costs by 30% for CNG and 40% for diesel vehicles.
  • The electric Tata ACE offers longer vehicle life and can operate in restricted areas in Delhi.
  • It helps businesses meet electric vehicle regulations without buying new vehicles.
  • The initiative starts in NCR and will expand, aiming to reduce carbon footprint and improve efficiency.

SUN Mobility, known for its focus on sustainable energy solutions, has unveiled retrofit kits for Tata ACE vehicles in partnership with Bluwheelz. This new initiative allows fleet operators to convert their existing Tata ACE vehicles, whether powered by internal combustion engines (ICE) or fixed batteries, into swappable electric vehicles (EVs). The technology utilizes SUN Mobility’s battery swapping system.

Event Highlights

Tata ACE fleet operators and financiers attended the launch event. The retrofit option is promoted as an opportunity for operators to potentially save money over purchasing new diesel or CNG vehicles.

According to the officials, operators who transition from CNG vehicles to retrofit battery swapping EVs can save around 30% on monthly costs, while those who transfer from diesel vehicles can save nearly 40%.

Benefits of the Retrofit Solution

The electric Tata ACE, which features SUN Mobility's swappable battery technology, is expected to provide longer vehicle life, lower operating costs, and higher uptime. The opportunity to operate during no-entry hours in the Delhi area is seen as a possible productivity boost.

Government Compliance and Expansion Plans

The retrofit option is given as a solution for businesses to comply with government laws requiring the changeover to electric vehicles while perhaps retaining their current operations without large new vehicle investments.

Statements from Key Figures

Anant Badjatya, CEO of SUN Mobility, claimed that the effort would begin in the NCR before moving to other states. Sanjiv Gupta, Founder and Chairman of Bluwheelz, stated his support for the collaboration, citing the retrofit kits as a strategy for migrating to electric vehicles while potentially lowering carbon footprint and increasing operational efficiency.

The event also allowed for conversations with fleet operators about their perspectives on switching to electric vehicles.

CMV360 Says

SUN Mobility's new retrofit kits for Tata ACE vehicles offer a practical and economical path to electric mobility. Fleet operators can save on costs while complying with environmental regulations, making this an attractive option.

The ability to retrofit existing vehicles without large upfront investments ensures a smoother transition to greener alternatives. This initiative is likely to encourage more businesses to consider electric vehicles, benefiting both their budgets and the environment.
