India's three-wheeler retail sales stood at 1,22,281 units in August 2026, registering an 8.59% month-on-month decline but an 8.64% year-on-year growth.
Passenger three-wheelers remained the largest segment, with 72,657 units sold, growing 23.11% YoY.
Goods three-wheelers recorded the strongest growth among major segments, rising 42.76% YoY to 14,614 units.
Passenger e-rickshaw sales declined 22.03% YoY to 28,816 units.
Bajaj Auto retained its market leadership with 42,605 units and a 34.84% market share.
Mahindra, Piaggio, TVS Motor and Atul Auto strengthened their presence in the Indian three-wheeler retail market.
India's three-wheeler retail market recorded sales of 1,22,281 units in August 2026, according to the latest data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
Although overall retail sales declined 8.59% compared to July 2026, the industry registered an 8.64% year-on-year growth over August 2025, when 1,12,553 units were sold.
The market continued to receive strong support from passenger and goods three-wheelers. Passenger three-wheelers remained the largest contributor, while the goods carrier segment recorded the strongest year-on-year growth among the major categories. However, passenger e-rickshaw sales remained under pressure during the month.
Three-wheeler retail sales declined from 1,33,778 units in July 2026 to 1,22,281 units in August 2026.
Despite the monthly decline, sales remained higher than the 1,12,553 units recorded in August 2025, indicating continued growth in India's affordable mobility and last-mile transportation market.

Passenger three-wheelers remained the largest category in August 2026, with 72,657 units retailed. Sales declined 4.69% compared to July, when 76,236 units were sold. However, the segment recorded a strong 23.11% year-on-year growth compared to 59,017 units in August 2025. The strong annual growth reflects continued demand for affordable passenger transportation and last-mile mobility services across India.
The goods three-wheeler segment recorded sales of 14,614 units in August 2026. While sales declined 4.89% month-on-month, the segment registered an impressive 42.76% growth compared to August 2025, when 10,237 units were sold. The strong annual growth highlights increasing demand for three-wheelers in last-mile cargo transportation and small-scale logistics operations.
Passenger e-rickshaw sales stood at 28,816 units in August 2026. The segment declined 17.01% compared to July 2026 and recorded a 22.03% year-on-year fall from 36,957 units sold in August 2025. Despite remaining an important part of India's affordable electric mobility market, passenger e-rickshaws faced pressure during the month.
E-rickshaws with carts, primarily used for goods transportation, recorded 6,029 units in August 2026. Sales declined 17.18% month-on-month and were down 2.98% year-on-year compared to 6,214 units sold in August 2025.
The personal three-wheeler category remained the smallest segment, with 165 units sold during August 2026. The segment declined 5.17% compared to July, but sales increased 28.91% year-on-year from 128 units in August 2025.
Bajaj Auto continued to lead India's three-wheeler retail market in August 2026. Mahindra companies, Piaggio, TVS Motor and Atul Auto also maintained significant positions in the industry.

Bajaj Auto retained its position as the largest three-wheeler manufacturer in India's retail market. The company retailed 42,605 units in August 2026, capturing a 34.84% market share. However, its retail sales were lower than the 43,744 units sold in August 2025, while its market share declined from 38.87% last year. Despite the reduction in market share, Bajaj Auto maintained a comfortable lead over other manufacturers.
Mahindra continued to expand its presence in India's three-wheeler market. Mahindra & Mahindra Limited recorded 13,381 units, accounting for a 10.94% market share, compared to 9,414 units and an 8.36% share in August 2025. Meanwhile, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Ltd contributed 13,367 units, holding a 10.93% market share. The Mahindra numbers highlight the company's growing presence in India's last-mile passenger and commercial mobility market.
Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd retailed 8,426 units in August 2026, capturing a 6.89% market share. The company improved its sales from 7,109 units in August 2025, while its market share increased from 6.32% to 6.89%.
TVS Motor Company recorded one of the strongest performances among major manufacturers. The company retailed 7,139 units, compared to 4,779 units in August 2025.
Its market share increased from 4.25% to 5.84%, showing strong growth in its three-wheeler business.
Atul Auto retailed 2,810 units during August 2026 and held a 2.30% market share. This was higher than the 2,113 units sold in August 2025, while its market share increased from 1.88% to 2.30%.
YC Electric Vehicle sold 2,208 units in August 2026, accounting for a 1.81% market share. The company's sales declined from 3,421 units in August 2025, while its market share also fell from 3.04% to 1.81%.
Dilli Electric Auto Pvt Ltd retailed 1,781 units, with its market share standing at 1.46%, compared to 1,816 units and a 1.61% share last year.
Saera Electric Auto Pvt Ltd recorded 1,702 units and held a 1.39% market share, compared to 2,172 units and a 1.93% share in August 2025. Both companies witnessed lower sales compared to the previous year.
Mini Metro EV LLP retailed 1,330 units, improving from 1,144 units in August 2025. Its market share increased from 1.02% to 1.09%.
J. S. Auto (P) Ltd recorded 1,315 units, compared to 945 units in the previous year. Its market share improved from 0.84% to 1.08%.
Other manufacturers, including electric vehicle companies with less than 1% individual market share, collectively retailed 39,584 units.
Together, they accounted for 32.37% of India's total three-wheeler market, compared to 35,896 units and a 31.89% share in August 2025.
This highlights the continued contribution of regional manufacturers and emerging electric three-wheeler companies.
August 2026 presented a mixed performance for India's three-wheeler retail industry. Overall sales declined compared to July, but the market continued to grow on an annual basis.
Passenger and goods three-wheelers remained the main growth drivers. Passenger three-wheelers posted strong annual growth, while goods carriers recorded the highest year-on-year increase among the major segments.
On the other hand, passenger e-rickshaw sales continued to decline, affecting the overall electric three-wheeler retail performance. Bajaj Auto retained its leadership position, while Mahindra, Piaggio, TVS Motor and Atul Auto strengthened their market presence.
