Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited (MLMML) has been selected as one of the 15 global finalists for the 2026 Earthshot Prize, recognising its efforts to expand electric last-mile mobility in India. The company is the only automotive manufacturer and the only corporate entity among this year's finalists. The 2026 Earthshot Prize awards ceremony will be held in Mumbai in November.

9 Billion Kilometres of Electric Mobility

MLMML has been nominated under the “Clean Our Air” category for its contribution to cleaner urban transportation. Its electric three-wheelers and small commercial vehicles have collectively travelled more than 9 billion kilometres.

According to the company, this has helped avoid around 185,000 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions. MLMML has also sold more than 400,000 electric vehicles, making it India's largest electric small commercial vehicle manufacturer by volume.

The company's electric portfolio includes the Treo range, UDO, Zor Grand, e-Alfa and ZEO, covering passenger and cargo applications.

Supporting Drivers and Small Businesses

MLMML says its electric vehicles are not only helping reduce emissions but are also supporting livelihoods. Electric three-wheelers and small cargo vehicles are used as income-generating assets by drivers, delivery partners, shopkeepers and small businesses.

Lower running costs compared with petrol and diesel vehicles can help owner-drivers improve their earning potential, supporting household incomes and micro-entrepreneurship. International media reports from Indian cities such as Lucknow have also highlighted how electric three-wheelers are changing the daily economics for drivers.

The company further supports owners through UDAY NXT, a programme offering benefits such as accidental insurance and access to financial counselling to improve the financial resilience of drivers and their families.

What Is the Earthshot Prize?

Founded in 2020 by Prince William, the Earthshot Prize selects 15 finalists every year across five environmental categories: Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-free World, and Fix Our Climate.

Each category has three finalists, with one winner receiving £1 million to scale its solution. All 15 finalists also join a year-long Earthshot Fellowship, giving them access to advisers, investors and other organisations working on environmental challenges.

Other 2026 finalists include Ørsted, Mahila Housing Trust, AirQo, Satellites on Fire, Pula, the City of Barcelona, Bhutan, Indigenous Desert Alliance, Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative, Zero Emission Maritime Buyers Alliance, Niue Ocean Wide Trust, PFAS-Free France, South Korea Zero Waste Movement Network, and Mother Earth Foundation.
