India’s intercity travel market is seeing a strong rise in passenger movement during the ongoing summer season, with younger travellers driving demand for short leisure trips and hometown visits. Intercity mobility platform Zingbus said it has recorded more than 100% year-on-year growth on several major routes across North, South, and West India.
The company said the increase in demand reflects changing travel habits among young consumers, who are now taking more frequent weekend and long-weekend trips instead of waiting for annual vacations or festive seasons. According to zingbus, this trend has pushed travel demand to start earlier in the season and continue strongly through the summer months.
zingbus said higher airfares and limited ticket availability across other transport modes are encouraging more people to choose buses for journeys ranging between 200 km and 600 km. The company added that affordable fares, better trip frequency, and point-to-point connectivity are making buses a preferred option for weekend and holiday travel.
The surge in passenger traffic has also increased pressure on the country’s transport network. To handle the seasonal rush, Indian Railways has announced more than 18,000 special train trips between April and July 2026.
Traditional summer leisure corridors in North India continued to perform strongly for zingbus. Routes such as Delhi to Nainital and Delhi to Shimla recorded more than 100% growth during the season.
However, the company said the fastest acceleration in travel demand came from South and West India, where several tourism and pilgrimage routes witnessed rapid growth.
Among the high-growth corridors identified by zingbus were routes connecting destinations such as Goa, Kochi, Visakhapatnam, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Thanjavur, and Tirupati.
The company noted that these routes are attracting travellers heading to hill stations, holiday destinations, and pilgrimage centres during the summer vacation period.
To meet the rising demand, zingbus said it has increased bus frequency and expanded seating capacity across important travel corridors before the start of the peak summer season.
The company added that its route planning and capacity deployment decisions are based on real-time booking patterns and corridor-level travel demand data, allowing it to quickly adjust services according to passenger needs.
Founded as an intercity mobility platform, Zingbus said it has served more than 3.5 million travellers across over 300 cities in more than 20 states. The company currently works with more than 270 bus operators and has completed over 10 million journeys so far.

India’s summer travel demand is rapidly shifting toward affordable and flexible intercity bus services, especially among younger travellers taking frequent short trips. Zingbus has benefited strongly from this trend, recording over 100% growth on several routes across India. Rising airfares, limited train availability, and better bus connectivity are further supporting this growth. With expanded capacity and increasing route demand, the company is strengthening its position in India’s fast-growing intercity mobility market.
