What Is EKA Avirbhava?
The name EKA Avirbhava has a special meaning. In Sanskrit, EKA means 'one', while Avirbhava refers to emergence, manifestation or the coming into being of something new.
The initiative represents the emergence of #BharatKiEKA, bringing the company's long-term vision of building an integrated electric commercial vehicle manufacturing ecosystem into reality.
The inauguration marks the culmination of years of investment, engineering and development. Through this initiative, EKA Mobility aims to strengthen India's capabilities in electric commercial vehicle manufacturing while developing solutions for both domestic and international markets.
EKA Mobility's Manufacturing Capacity, Investment and Growth Plans
EKA Mobility and its group companies currently operate 11 manufacturing facilities spread across approximately 120 acres. Six of these facilities were inaugurated under EKA Avirbhava.
Together, the manufacturing network has the capacity to produce more than 40,000 electric vehicles annually. The group has invested over ₹3,500 crore in developing this manufacturing ecosystem, making it one of India's largest investments in the commercial electric vehicle segment.
Apart from manufacturing, the company has invested more than ₹600 crore in research and development (R&D) and holds over 300 intellectual properties.
Some of the company's major business and manufacturing figures include:
11 manufacturing facilities spread across 120 acres
More than 40,000 electric vehicles annual manufacturing capacity
Over ₹3,500 crore invested in manufacturing infrastructure
More than ₹600 crore invested in research and development
Over 300 intellectual properties
More than 3,000 vehicles already operating on Indian roads
A workforce of over 6,000 employees across the group
Expected generation of more than 2.5 lakh jobs over the next five years across its operations and wider ecosystem
The company expects its expanding manufacturing operations to create employment opportunities across production, engineering, supply chains, dealerships, services and other supporting businesses.
Six New Manufacturing Facilities: Location and Purpose
The six facilities inaugurated under EKA Avirbhava cover different stages of commercial vehicle manufacturing, including vehicle assembly, automotive engineering, seating, interiors and EV components.
1. EKA Small Commercial Vehicle Plant, Pune
The EKA SCV plant in Pune is dedicated to manufacturing the company's small commercial vehicle range. These vehicles are designed to support different goods transportation and passenger mobility requirements, including last-mile applications.
2. EKA Bus and Truck Plant, Pune
This facility will support the manufacturing of EKA's electric buses and medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) truck platforms. It strengthens the company's capabilities in passenger transportation and electric freight mobility.
3. VDL Pinnacle Engineering Plant, Pune
The VDL Pinnacle Engineering facility focuses on automotive engineering. It is a joint venture between Netherlands-based VDL Groep and Pinnacle Industries.
The plant adds engineering capabilities to the group's manufacturing ecosystem and supports the development of automotive solutions.
4. Instor India Plant, Pune
The Instor India facility manufactures retail store fixtures, displays and storage solutions.
It also produces automotive components, including electric bus body structures and IP67-rated battery enclosures, supporting the growing requirements of electric commercial vehicle manufacturing.
5. Pinnacle Seating and Interiors Plant, Pune
This facility is dedicated to manufacturing seating systems, vehicle interiors and related components. It will primarily cater to the requirements of the western region.
6. Pinnacle Interiors Plant, Pithampur
Located in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, this is Pinnacle Industries' largest manufacturing facility.
It focuses on seating systems and interiors for a wide range of vehicles, including buses, trains, tractors, ambulances, motorhomes and customised vehicles.
Together, these six facilities strengthen the group's ability to manufacture different vehicle platforms and components under one integrated manufacturing network.
EKA Mobility's Electric Vehicle Portfolio and Government PLI Recognition
EKA Mobility offers one of India's widest and most comprehensive electric commercial vehicle portfolios, covering electric buses, small commercial vehicles and medium and heavy commercial vehicle trucks.
The company's product range is designed to address different transportation requirements, from passenger mobility and public transport to goods movement and last-mile delivery.
EKA Mobility is also recognised as a Champion OEM under the Government of India's Automotive Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme. The company has received PLI certification across all its product platforms.
Explaining the company's approach to product development, Dr. Sudhir Mehta said that commercial electric vehicles should address the complete mobility ecosystem rather than focus only on individual vehicle categories.
He emphasised the importance of developing solutions for both goods and passenger transportation, covering first-mile, last-mile and long-distance mobility requirements.
He also highlighted that public transport remains an important part of India's transportation system. Making it affordable and accessible to more people is essential to achieving sustainable mobility goals.
According to Dr. Mehta, electric mobility solutions must deliver benefits to everyone involved, including vehicle operators, passengers and the country. EKA's products are being developed with a focus on performance, profitability and sustainability.
6,000+ Employees and 1,000-Member R&D Team Behind EKA's EV Technology
EKA Mobility's manufacturing and product development capabilities are supported by a workforce of more than 6,000 employees across its group companies.
This includes a dedicated R&D team of around 1,000 designers and engineers, which the company describes as India's largest electric commercial vehicle research and development setup.
The in-house engineering team works on vehicle design, technology development, software and other important areas of electric mobility.
An important part of this technology ecosystem is EKA Connect, the company's proprietary vehicle monitoring software. Developed in India by EKA's own engineers, the platform monitors more than 1,500 parameters of every running vehicle every half a second.
This allows EKA and its fleet customers to continuously monitor vehicle performance and access detailed operational information.
Another important aspect is data security and localisation. EKA Connect keeps vehicle and operational data within India. This is particularly important for state transport undertakings, public transport fleets and enterprise customers that require reliable access to vehicle information while ensuring their data remains within the country.
EKA Mobility Expands Its International Presence
Along with strengthening its domestic manufacturing operations, EKA Mobility is also looking to expand its presence in international markets.
The company's electric buses are already operating in Zanzibar, while its small commercial vehicles have been deployed in Nepal.
EKA is also establishing assembly plants in South Africa and Australia. These facilities are expected to expand the company's manufacturing footprint beyond India and support its entry into new international markets.
The international expansion reflects the company's ambition to develop India-built electric commercial vehicle solutions for customers across different countries.
EKA Mobility's 11,000+ Bus Order Book and Nationwide Deployments
EKA Mobility has an order book of more than 11,000 electric buses, valued at approximately US$1.7 billion.
The company's electric buses are being deployed across several Indian states, including Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Meghalaya, Odisha and Arunachal Pradesh.
Apart from its bus business, EKA's electric small commercial vehicles have recorded more than 1,500 sales across India. These vehicles serve different applications, including passenger mobility, last-mile delivery and goods transportation.
To strengthen its customer reach and after-sales support, EKA Mobility has also established a network of more than 75 dealerships across India.
Each dealership operates as an integrated 3S facility, offering Sales, Service and Spares under one roof. These dealerships are designed to provide customers with easier access to vehicles, maintenance services and spare parts, supporting a smoother ownership experience.
