Blackbuck EV Unveils 15-Metre ELON 3X Electric Sleeper Coach With 42 Berths

Key Highlights

  • 15-metre, three-axle electric sleeper coach.

  • 42 sleeper berths and over 9 cubic metres of luggage space.

  • 425 kWh and 565 kWh battery options.

  • Independent suspension, ECAS and active tag-axle steering.

  • Reservations open; production targeted for mid-2027.

Blackbuck Electric Vehicles has unveiled its new ELON 3X, a 15-metre, three-axle electric sleeper coach designed for long-distance intercity transportation. The electric coach comes with 42 sleeper berths, two battery pack options of 425 kWh and 565 kWh, and more than 9 cubic metres of dedicated luggage space.

Developed entirely in India, the ELON 3X has been designed to meet the requirements of long-distance passenger transportation, with a focus on passenger comfort, safety, energy efficiency and operating economics. The company has opened reservations for the electric sleeper coach, while commercial production is targeted to begin in mid-2027.

Blackbuck EV ELON 3X: Purpose-Built Electric Platform

The ELON 3X is developed on Blackbuck EV's Born-Electric Skateboard Architecture, a platform designed specifically for electric mobility rather than adapting an existing diesel-powered bus platform.

The company has integrated the vehicle's structural design, electric propulsion, battery storage and electrical systems into a unified architecture. Its lightweight construction is intended to improve energy efficiency while maintaining the strength and durability required for long-distance commercial operations.

The three-axle configuration is designed to support higher passenger and luggage capacity while delivering improved highway stability and ride comfort. Along with 42 sleeper berths, the coach provides dedicated luggage storage exceeding 9 cubic metres, addressing the baggage requirements of passengers travelling on long intercity routes. It also accommodates a driver and co-driver.

Two Battery Options for Different Operating Requirements

The Blackbuck EV ELON 3X electric sleeper coach will be available with two battery configurations:

  • 425 kWh battery pack

  • 565 kWh battery pack

These options are intended to cater to different operating requirements of intercity transport operators. By offering two battery capacities, Blackbuck EV aims to provide flexibility for operators planning electric bus services across different long-distance routes.

However, the company has not yet disclosed the claimed driving range, charging specifications or pricing of the ELON 3X. These details will be important for operators evaluating the vehicle's suitability for their daily routes and commercial requirements.

Independent Suspension and Advanced Safety Features

For passenger comfort and better vehicle control, the ELON 3X comes with independent suspension, active tag-axle steering and Electronically Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS).

The combination is designed to improve ride quality, highway handling and manoeuvrability, particularly at lower speeds. Active tag-axle steering is also intended to support easier movement of the long three-axle coach.

In terms of safety, the electric sleeper coach gets several important braking and stability systems as standard, including:

  • Electronic Braking System (EBS)

  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

  • Disc brakes on all wheels

These systems are designed to support controlled braking, reduce wheel locking during sudden braking and improve vehicle stability under different driving conditions.

Four Years of Development and Real-World Testing

Blackbuck EV says the ELON 3X has undergone four years of engineering and product development, including two years of real-world road testing.

The testing programme covered several important areas, including vehicle handling, highway stability, passenger ride comfort, system integration and overall durability under actual road conditions.

The coach has also been engineered with reference to European automotive standards and international design practices. Its development involved in-house vehicle architecture, structural engineering and system integration, supported by collaborations with international automotive suppliers.

This development approach reflects the company's focus on building an electric coach specifically for commercial passenger transportation rather than simply converting an existing conventional bus into an electric vehicle.

Blackbuck EV ELON 3X Reservations Open, Production in 2027

Blackbuck Electric Vehicles has opened reservations for the ELON 3X and is currently engaging with prospective intercity transport operators ahead of its market introduction. Commercial production is targeted for mid-2027.

Commenting on the launch, R K Raju, Founder and CEO of Blackbuck Electric Vehicles, said that the company developed the coach around a purpose-built electric platform. Its development priorities include passenger comfort, operator economics and energy efficiency.

With its 15-metre three-axle design, 42 sleeper berths, two battery options and advanced suspension and safety systems, the ELON 3X marks Blackbuck EV's entry into the long-distance electric sleeper coach segment. Its commercial success will depend on factors such as driving range, charging time, vehicle pricing and operating costs, which are yet to be announced.
