Key Highlights:
Stellantis has introduced the STLA Frame platform. This platform is an advanced, BEV-native (battery-electric vehicle) multi-energy platform. It is designed for full-size body-on-frame pickup trucks and SUVs.
Stellantis CEO, Carlos Tavares, highlighted that the STLA Frame offers "no-compromise solutions," especially for customers hesitant about electric vehicles, with both BEV and REEV options available.
Key Features of the STLA Frame Platform
The STLA Frame platform delivers impressive capabilities, including:
Designed for full-size trucks, light commercial vehicles, and SUVs, the STLA Frame can also accommodate internal combustion, hybrid, and hydrogen powertrains in the future. This platform is crucial for North American markets and other global regions, meeting the high demands of truck and SUV owners for power, durability, and performance.
Propulsion Systems for Extended Performance
The REEV system, which combines a battery, electric drive modules (EDMs), an onboard generator, and an internal combustion engine, ensures extended range even when hauling or towing heavy loads. The engine is not directly connected to the wheels. Instead, the generator powers the electric motors to move the vehicle and charges the battery when needed. This setup helps extend the vehicle's range while providing strong performance from the electric motors.
Durability and Efficiency in Design
The construction features of the platform are advanced, high-strength steel for superior durability with low weight. The center section houses the battery pack, protected by reinforced frame rails. A full-length belly pan reduces aerodynamic drag, helping to maximize driving range.
The platform also supports future advancements in battery storage and energy technology, with flexibility for different driving needs and conditions. The platform accommodates liquid-cooled battery packs ranging from 159 to more than 200 kilowatt-hours.
Charging Flexibility and Bi-Directional Power
STLA Frame supports fast charging. BEV models can charge at 800 volts DC up to 350 kW. This enables the vehicle to add 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. REEV models can add up to 50 miles in 10 minutes with 400-volt DC charging. The platform also features bi-directional charging, allowing the vehicle to power another EV, supply electricity to a home in emergencies, or even feed energy back into the grid.
Part of Stellantis' Long-Term Vision
The STLA Frame platform is a key part of Stellantis' larger plan for electrification. The company is investing €50 billion in electric vehicles by 2030. The company aims for 100% passenger car BEV sales in Europe and 50% BEV sales in the U.S. by 2030. STLA Frame joins other platforms in Stellantis' Dare Forward 2030 plan, promising a wide variety of electrified solutions for diverse customer needs.
