Digital logistics platform Porter has achieved a major milestone in India’s electric freight transportation sector by deploying its 10,000th electric truck in Delhi. The milestone vehicle was formally flagged off in the presence of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, highlighting the growing adoption of electric vehicles in urban goods transportation.
The deployment of the 10,000th electric truck marks an important step in Porter’s expansion of electric freight operations. The company is focusing on increasing the use of electric vehicles for goods transportation while building a more efficient and cleaner urban logistics ecosystem.
Porter currently operates more than 50,000 electric vehicles every month across its network. The company has set an ambitious target to quadruple its monthly active electric vehicle count over the next five years, indicating its plans to significantly expand electric mobility in the freight sector.
Porter said its digital logistics platform has also helped improve asset utilisation and reduce inefficient vehicle movement. So far, the platform has eliminated 185 crore kilometres of empty runs.
By reducing these unnecessary journeys, Porter estimates that it has contributed to more than ₹1,000 crore in fuel import savings. The company believes better utilisation of vehicles can play an important role in making freight transportation more efficient while supporting the shift towards cleaner mobility.
Speaking about the milestone, Uttam Digga, Co-Founder and CEO of Porter, said the deployment of 10,000 electric trucks reflects the increasing role electric trucks can play in India’s goods transportation sector.
He noted that electric trucks could become a major part of India’s transition towards cleaner freight. However, achieving large-scale adoption will require continued innovation and solutions that address practical freight-operational challenges.
These include vehicle economics, charging infrastructure, financing and vehicle utilisation, which remain important factors in determining the commercial viability of electric freight vehicles.
Pranav Goel, Co-Founder and Executive Vice Chairman of Porter, said the journey to 10,000 electric trucks has been driven by collaboration across the ecosystem. He highlighted the contribution of driver-partners, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), EV infrastructure providers and policymakers in supporting the transition.
