Piaggio Vehicles has expanded its electric three-wheeler portfolio with the launch of the Apé WavE, a new L3-category electric passenger vehicle. Priced at ₹2.55 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune), the new electric three-wheeler is designed for the affordable passenger mobility segment and is aimed at shared mobility operators, fleet owners, and individual drivers in urban and semi-urban markets.
The Apé WavE has been developed for fixed-route transport and short-distance daily operations, offering a practical and cost-effective solution for customers looking to switch to electric mobility.
The Piaggio Apé WavE is powered by a 5.4kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor that delivers 3kW peak power and 25Nm of torque.
According to the company, the vehicle offers a real-world driving range of around 90 ±5 km on a single charge. It has a top speed of 40 km/h, 19% gradeability, and takes around 4.5 hours to fully charge, making it suitable for daily passenger transport in cities and nearby towns.
The new electric three-wheeler is built on a monocoque chassis with a full-metal body, providing better durability for regular commercial use. Piaggio has also equipped the vehicle with a passenger-focused suspension system that improves ride comfort while reducing noise, vibration and harshness (NVH).
The Apé WavE offers 180mm ground clearance and comes with a spacious passenger cabin, making it well-suited for India's urban and semi-urban road conditions.
Piaggio says the Apé WavE has been positioned between low-cost electric three-wheelers and premium passenger EVs. The company aims to offer customers the benefits of lower purchase and running costs while providing features generally found in higher-end electric passenger vehicles.
With this approach, Piaggio expects the new model to attract both owner-operators and fleet customers planning to transition to electric mobility.
The launch of the Apé WavE further strengthens Piaggio's presence in India's growing electric passenger three-wheeler market. It joins the company's existing electric lineup, which includes the Apé E-City Swappable, Apé E-City FX, Apé E-City Maxx, and Apé E-City Ultra.
By expanding its product range, Piaggio aims to serve a wider customer base across different passenger transport applications.
Speaking about the launch, Amit Sagar, Executive Vice President, CV Domestic Business and Retail Finance, Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd., said that the passenger electric vehicle segment continues to witness strong demand, especially in markets where shared mobility and short-distance transport play an important role in daily commuting.
He added that the Apé WavE has been designed to deliver the right balance of affordable purchase cost, lower operating expenses, and an improved passenger experience, making it an attractive choice for commercial operators.
With the launch of the Apé WavE, Piaggio has expanded its electric passenger three-wheeler lineup with a practical and affordable option for shared mobility. Its 5.4kWh battery, around 90km real-world range, comfortable cabin, and low operating costs make it suitable for urban and semi-urban transport. The new model is expected to attract both individual operators and fleet owners looking to adopt electric mobility while reducing overall running expenses.
