Key Highlights

  • 20 electric buses launched for Ajanta Caves visitors
  • Buses accommodate 14 to 22 passengers
  • Air-conditioned options with modern amenities
  • Eco-friendly alternative to diesel buses
  • New online booking system for easier reservations

The Maharashtra Tourism Department has launched a fleet of 20 electric buses to enhance the experience of tourists visiting the famous Ajanta Caves. These eco-friendly buses will transport both domestic and international tourists from the parking lot to the caves, making the journey faster and more convenient. Previously, diesel buses were used, which often led to long waiting times. The switch to electric buses not only improves efficiency but also promotes environmental sustainability.

Some of the electric buses are air-conditioned, and all are equipped with modern amenities, offering comfortable rides for 14 to 22 passengers. Additionally, visitors will be treated to a short film about the history of the Ajanta Caves during their journey. The entire fleet is expected to be fully operational by October 20.

A Step Toward Sustainability

The introduction of electric buses is a significant move toward promoting eco-friendly tourism in the region. These buses will reduce the carbon footprint, aligning with global efforts to adopt green technologies in tourism.

Tourist-Friendly Booking System

To make travel easier, the Maharashtra Tourism Department is planning to introduce a user-friendly online booking system, simplifying the reservation process for tourists.

About Ajanta Caves

The Ajanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are located around 100 km from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad). This historical site features 30 rock-cut caves adorned with intricate paintings illustrating the life of Lord Buddha and the Jataka Tales. It is one of the most iconic heritage destinations in India.

How to Reach Ajanta Caves

  • By Air: The nearest airport is Aurangabad, 99 km from the caves, with regular flights from Mumbai and Pune.
  • By Train: Jalna Railway Station is 60 km away, while Aurangabad Railway Station is 100 km from the caves.
  • By Road: Regular buses connect Aurangabad and nearby cities to Ajanta Caves. Once at the site, visitors can use the electric bus service to reach the cave complex.
