LeafyBus plans to expand its electric intercity fleet to 100 buses by 2026, offering affordable, reliable travel while supporting India’s push for clean mobility.
LeafyBus Plans Major Electric Bus Expansion in North India by 2026

Key Highlights:

  • LeafyBus plans to expand its intercity electric bus fleet to 100 by 2026, starting with 50 buses by October 2025.
  • The company currently operates on the Delhi-Dehradun route, achieving 85% occupancy and covering over 92,000 km in 90 days.
  • LeafyBus follows an asset-light, cost-efficient model with tickets priced at ₹450 for a 300 km journey.
  • It is raising $2.5 million in funding and partners with JBM Auto, Eka Mobility, and Glida for operations and charging.
  • States like Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are supporting electric mobility, and LeafyBus aims to register in states with strong EV policies.

Electric intercity startup LeafyBus is gearing up to grow its fleet to 100 electric buses by the year 2026. The company aims to grow steadily while maintaining strong financial performance, something not common in the transport sector.

“We began operations in December with just six buses and now run three trips daily on the Delhi-Dehradun route, with an 85% average occupancy. In 90 days, we’ve covered over 92,000 km without any charging delays,” said co-founder Rohan Dewan.

Affordable Travel Without Luxury Add-ons

LeafyBus follows an asset-light model, which has helped the company stay EBITDA positive. “We aren’t burning cash,” Dewan added. “No luxury lounges, no flashy ads—just reliable and affordable travel.” Currently, LeafyBus tickets cost around ₹450 for a 300 km ride, nearly half the cost of a typical AC Volvo bus on the same route.

Funding and Future Plans

The company is now raising $2.5 million to help scale operations. The plan is to deploy 50 electric buses by October 2025 and double that to 100 in 2026. LeafyBus works with JBM Auto Ltd. and Eka Mobility as manufacturing partners, while charging is managed by Glida (previously Fortum Charge & Drive).

EV Push in North Indian States

LeafyBus’ growth comes at a time when states like Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are pushing for electric mobility. Uttar Pradesh plans to introduce 2,000 electric buses under the PM E-Drive scheme and build 340 charging stations, expanding to 8,000 buses by 2030. Rajasthan has a policy to gradually replace traditional buses with electric ones on key routes.

Targeting Supportive States

LeafyBus plans to register buses in states with better EV support. “We’re aiming for 500 buses in the next three years. The potential is huge, 92% of buses in India are privately owned, but less than 1% are electric,” Dewan said. LeafyBus says its mission is to provide a clean, safe, and affordable ride without compromising on quality or profits. “The electric future is not far off, it’s already here, and we’re leading the way,” Dewan concluded.

CMV360 Says

LeafyBus is taking a smart and practical route to scale electric mobility in intercity travel. Its focus on keeping costs low while offering consistent service can make electric buses more acceptable to Indian travellers. If it stays consistent with its strategy, LeafyBus could become a major name in the future of Indian intercity travel.
