The Hydrogen Fuel Cell bus can carry over 30 passengers and will be tested for three years at Cochin International Airport (CIAL).

Key Highlights:

  • EKA Mobility, KPIT Technologies, and BPCL deployed a 9-meter hydrogen fuel cell bus at Cochin International Airport (CIAL).
  • The bus will undergo a three-year Proof of Concept (PoC) project at the airport.
  • KPIT Technologies provided the hydrogen fuel cell technology.
  • The initiative aims to promote hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles.
  • EKA Mobility focuses on electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles.

EKA Mobility, KPIT Technologies and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) have launched a 9-meter hydrogen fuel cell bus at Cochin International Airport (CIAL) in Kochi. The bus can carry over 30 passengers and will be tested for three years at Cochin International Airport (CIAL). It was recently displayed at the Global Hydrogen & Renewable Energy Summit in Kochi. This project aims to help Kerala move towards eco-friendly transportation by introducing hydrogen-powered buses.

As part of the project, EKA Mobility added KPIT Technologies’ hydrogen fuel cell technology to its 9-meter electric bus. BPCL installed the hydrogen production, dispensing, and refuelling infrastructure in Kochi. The partnership aims to develop both the bus and the hydrogen infrastructure to promote the use of green hydrogen in Kerala.

This initiative aims to boost the use of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles in India, attract investment in green hydrogen infrastructure, and support policy development for future projects. By using clean energy, it helps Kerala move towards sustainable mobility and aligns with India’s net-zero goals.

CMV360 Says

The launch of the hydrogen fuel cell bus at CIAL is expected to attract more investment in green hydrogen infrastructure and shape policies for the adoption of hydrogen-powered vehicles in India. EKA Mobility, KPIT Technologies, and BPCL are working together to test both the bus and the hydrogen refueling system. This project is not just about a new bus but about creating a complete hydrogen mobility system that other states can replicate. If the project works well, more hydrogen buses could be used in India.
