Eicher Trucks and Buses, a division of VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), has delivered six fully built electric Eicher Skyline Pro-E 12m tarmac buses to IndiGo Airlines. These buses will operate at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, marking a significant step towards greener and more efficient ground operations.
This delivery is part of a strategic partnership between Eicher and IndiGo that focuses on clean energy, operational efficiency, and future-ready infrastructure. The move also marks Eicher’s entry into the aviation ground support equipment sector with its first-ever electric tarmac bus deployment.
The new buses will be used to transport passengers between the airport terminal and aircraft stands, reducing IndiGo’s carbon footprint and supporting its mission to minimize the environmental impact of operations.

With a broad range of buses optimized for demanding applications and 24/7 connected service, Eicher is already a familiar name for citizens, school children, and factory staff in Bengaluru. With these tarmac coaches, Eicher stands committed to sustainably transporting the 42 million passengers that use this gateway to India’s Silicon Valley each year."

The Eicher Skyline Pro-E 12m electric tarmac bus is designed to meet the unique demands of airport operations.
Capacity: 17+D seating with space for 52 standees
Technology: Advanced lithium-iron phosphate battery with CCS2 fast charging
Ride Quality: Full air suspension, power-assisted steering, and disc brakes on both axles
Purpose-Built Design: Smooth and stable ride for continuous ground movement at airports
These features ensure that the buses offer comfort, safety, and efficiency while handling high passenger volumes.
VECV has been actively working on developing its in-house EV powertrain and building a robust charging ecosystem through partnerships. The collaboration with IndiGo is not just about supplying buses but also about enabling institutional electrification on a larger scale.
This initiative demonstrates how critical sectors like aviation can successfully adopt electric mobility, aligning with India’s broader sustainability goals.
