Delhi Launches DEVi Electric Bus Services for Better Connectivity

Key Highlights:

  • Delhi Government launched the DEVi electric bus initiative to connect metro stations with key bus terminals.
  • 400 electric buses deployed in East and West Delhi, covering areas like Ghazipur, Vinod Nagar East, and Nangloi.
  • Each bus has 23 seats, space for 13 standing passengers, and fares range from ₹10 to ₹25.
  • Buses run every 10 minutes and include GPS, CCTV, voice announcements, panic buttons, and wheelchair ramps.
  • The initiative supports cleaner urban transport and aims to ease daily travel for commuters in Delhi.

The Delhi Government has launched a new public transport project called the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector (DEVi). This move aims to improve last-mile travel between metro stations and main bus terminals. Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta flagged off the new fleet, which supports the goal of better urban mobility through clean transport methods.

Launch Event and Vision

The DEVi initiative was introduced at a special event attended by several important leaders, including Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan. This step follows the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to promote modern and sustainable transport in cities.

First Phase of Rollout

In the first stage, 400 electric buses have been added to the roads. These buses will mainly serve East and West Delhi. Some of the areas covered include Ghazipur, Vinod Nagar East, and Nangloi. The new service will help thousands of daily commuters reach their final destinations more easily.

Bus Features and Fare

Each DEVi bus includes 23 seats. Out of these, six seats are reserved for women. There is also space for 13 standing passengers. Women passengers can travel free, while the regular fare is between ₹10 and ₹25. Buses will run every 10 minutes, offering fast and regular service throughout the day.

Smart Technology and Accessibility

The DEVi fleet is equipped with modern features for passenger safety and convenience. These features aim to make travel smoother, safer, and more accessible for all users. Some of the key features include:

  • GPS tracking
  • Digital route displays
  • Voice announcements
  • Automatic passenger counting
  • CCTV cameras
  • Panic buttons for emergencies
  • Ramps for wheelchairs
  • Knee-down flooring for easier entry and exit

Improving Urban Travel

The new electric buses in Delhi are expected to make a big difference in how people travel across the city. With clean energy, better service, and smart tools, this project hopes to cut down on traffic problems and pollution while offering a better travel experience.
