JSW Greentech Deploys 100 AMPSTAR Electric Tractor Trucks
JSW Greentech Limited, the electric commercial vehicle arm of the JSW Group, announced the first commercial sale of AMPSTAR electric trucks on October 28, 2026. The company has received an order for 100 AMPSTAR 4x2 55T electric tractor trucks, designed for heavy-duty industrial haulage at JSW Cement's Vijayanagar facility.
The deployment follows the unveiling of the AMPSTAR brand a little over a month ago, marking a quick transition from product launch to commercial operations.
The project is being carried out in collaboration with JSW Eco-Mobility, a subsidiary of JSW Greentech, which will provide Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS). Paradeep Parivahan Limited will serve as the logistics partner, supporting the movement of industrial materials.
The integrated approach combines electric trucks, battery-swapping facilities and logistics operations to support regular, high-volume freight movement.
AMPSTAR 4x2 and 6x4 Electric Tractor Trucks Receive CMVR Certification
Alongside the commercial deployment, the AMPSTAR 4x2 and 6x4 electric tractor trucks have received certification under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
This certification confirms that the models meet the applicable safety, performance and regulatory requirements for deployment on Indian roads. It is an important step in preparing the vehicles for commercial use in the country's heavy-duty transportation sector.
The first 100-truck order specifically covers the AMPSTAR 4x2 55T electric tractor truck, which has been engineered for demanding Indian commercial operating conditions.
The vehicle delivers a peak power output of 430 kW and peak torque of 2,600 Nm, making it suitable for heavy-duty industrial freight applications. The 4x2 and 6x4 configurations will form part of AMPSTAR's broader electric truck portfolio.
330-km Electric Freight Corridor to Connect Nandyal and Vijayanagar
The 100 AMPSTAR electric tractor trucks will transport clinker and slag along an approximately 330-km corridor connecting Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh with Vijayanagar in Karnataka. The integrated transport solution is designed to handle an estimated 1.25 lakh tonnes of cargo every month. This high-volume movement makes the project an important test of electric trucks in demanding industrial logistics operations.
To support the fleet, JSW Eco-Mobility will develop a dedicated electric logistics corridor equipped with four battery-swapping stations between Nandyal and Vijayanagar. Battery swapping will allow trucks to replace depleted batteries with charged ones rather than waiting for conventional charging. This approach is intended to support vehicle utilisation and reduce interruptions during regular freight operations.
The combination of heavy-duty electric trucks, battery-swapping infrastructure and a planned logistics network is expected to help make electric transportation more commercially viable for industrial supply chains.
Project Expected to Save 4.5 Crore Litres of Diesel
The AMPSTAR deployment is expected to deliver significant environmental benefits over the contract period. According to JSW Greentech, the operation is projected to save approximately 4.5 crore litres of diesel and avoid around 6,250 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions.
For JSW Cement, the initiative is part of its efforts to make industrial operations more sustainable while maintaining the efficiency required for large-scale material transportation.
Narinder Kahlon, Director Finance at JSW Cement, said the deployment of 100 AMPSTAR electric trucks is an important step towards decarbonising the company's logistics operations. He highlighted the role of an integrated electric mobility solution backed by battery-swapping infrastructure in reducing diesel dependence and emissions without compromising operational efficiency.
The project also demonstrates how electric commercial vehicles can be introduced into regular industrial freight operations when supported by suitable infrastructure and a coordinated logistics model.

JSW Greentech's Integrated Manufacturing Facility in Maharashtra
AMPSTAR electric trucks will be manufactured at JSW Greentech's upcoming integrated greenfield manufacturing facility at AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.
The facility is being developed across approximately 90 acres and is planned to have an annual production capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks. The manufacturing plant will include an automated truck-cabin production line and an integrated battery ecosystem. It will also receive research and development support from JSW Greentech's R&D centre in Pune.
The facility is expected to play an important role in supporting the company's electric commercial vehicle ambitions by bringing vehicle manufacturing and battery-related capabilities together at one location.
AMPSTAR Offers Multiple Power and Ownership Options
JSW Greentech is positioning AMPSTAR as a broader electric commercial vehicle platform rather than a range limited to a single truck configuration. The brand offers power configurations ranging from 150 kW to 500 kW, giving customers options suited to different commercial transportation requirements.
Customers can choose from several ownership and operating models, including outright vehicle purchases, leasing and Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS). The company also offers supporting solutions such as charging infrastructure, financing and after-sales support.
These options are intended to provide businesses with greater flexibility in adopting electric commercial vehicles, particularly where upfront costs, battery management and operational requirements influence purchasing decisions.
Following the introduction of its electric tractor trucks, AMPSTAR plans to expand its product portfolio to include tippers and fixed-body dumpers. These additions would extend the brand's reach into other demanding commercial and industrial applications.
AMPSTAR's First 100 Trucks Mark a Step Towards Electric Heavy-Duty Transport
Sumit Mittal, CEO of JSW Greentech Limited, said the 55T electric tractor truck represents one of the most demanding vehicle designs in commercial transportation. He noted that reaching the first 100-truck deployment within just over a month of the brand launch demonstrates progress towards building an integrated electric mobility ecosystem.
According to Mittal, the project brings together electric vehicles, battery-swapping infrastructure and a dedicated freight corridor to support the commercial viability of heavy-duty electric transportation. He added that AMPSTAR aims to help transform the way businesses move goods across India.
The deployment is significant because heavy-duty industrial transport requires vehicles that can handle substantial loads while meeting demanding operating schedules. The project will combine these vehicles with dedicated energy infrastructure and logistics support, addressing several practical requirements of electric freight operations.
