Key Highlights:
Allison Transmission has joined forces with Ashok Leyland, the flagship company of the Hinduja Group, to launch the first low-floor city buses in Tamil Nadu featuring fully automatic transmissions. This initiative represents a major advancement in the modernization of public transportation.
Features of the New Fleet
The new fleet includes Ashok Leyland's 12-meter diesel buses with stepless entry, each fitted with Allison's T 280 Torqmatic Series automatic transmission. This upgrade from manual to automatic transmissions is expected to greatly improve accessibility and passenger comfort, especially for those with disabilities.
Powerful Performance
These buses run on Ashok Leyland's H-series engine, a six-cylinder, four-valve model that generates 184 kilowatts (246 horsepower). The engine is assembled at Allison’s manufacturing plant near Chennai, underscoring the company's commitment to local production.
A Vision for Modern Transport
Allison Transmission's Vice President for EMEA, APAC, and South America Sales, Heidi Schutte, highlighted the significance of this initiative, noting, “This marks a pivotal move in our mission to lead India's shift to fully automatic transmissions. We’re proud to support transportation advancements in Tamil Nadu and anticipate ongoing collaboration with Ashok Leyland and transit customers nationwide.”
