If you are a ration card holder, there's crucial news regarding the ration distribution scheme. The government has made it mandatory for all ration cardholders to complete their eKYC by September 30, 2024. Why eKYC is Important

The Food Department has enforced this rule to prevent fraud and ensure that only eligible individuals benefit from the food security scheme. Ration dealers have been instructed to strictly follow this rule and assist cardholders in completing their verification and eKYC.

What Happens if You Don’t Verify?

Ration cardholders who fail to complete the verification process by the deadline will no longer be able to receive ration supplies like wheat, rice, and other food items. Additionally, the government is investigating to identify ineligible beneficiaries and ensure that only deserving individuals may remain in the scheme.

Eligibility for Ration Cards

According to the new rules, only people under the food security scheme can hold ration cards.

Eligible categories include:

  • People living below the poverty line
  • Economically weaker sections
  • Labourers and daily wage earners

Ineligibility Criteria

The following individuals are not eligible for ration cards:

  • Those owning property over 100 square meters (plot, flat, or house)
  • Families with a four-wheeler or tractor
  • Individuals earning more than ₹2 lakh in rural areas or ₹3 lakh in urban areas annually

Consequences of Holding an Ineligible Ration Card

If ineligible individuals possess ration cards, they are advised to surrender them. Otherwise, they may face legal action and will also be required to repay the benefits they received through the card.

How to Verify Your Ration Card

To verify your ration card, visit the shop where you receive your ration, and submit the required documents like your Aadhaar card and mobile number. The shopkeeper will update your information in the system, and your family's fingerprints will also be scanned. After this, your verification will be completed online.

How to Complete eKYC

The eKYC process is free. You must provide fingerprints of all family members, or, in case fingerprints are not available, iris scanning will be done.

How to Check Verification Status

You can check whether your ration card has been verified by visiting your ration shop or the Food Department’s website. If your name is on the list, your ration card is verified.
