Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Mahindra Tractors Skill Development Centre in Gadchiroli, marking a significant step toward empowering rural youth through technical training, employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities. The initiative aligns with the government’s mission to promote skill development and self-reliance in rural India.
The newly inaugurated center will offer world-class technical and on-the-job training to rural youth. It has been established by Mahindra Tractors, India’s No. 1 tractor brand, in collaboration with the Department of Vocational Education and Training (DVET) and the Maharashtra State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) at Government ITI College, Gadchiroli.
This initiative aims to equip local students with industry-oriented skills relevant to tractors and agricultural machinery. The training will follow a structured curriculum, providing hands-on experience with modern farm equipment under expert instructors.
Mahindra Tractors emphasized that this center is not limited to education but will also open doors to employment. Trained youth will find opportunities in manufacturing units, dealership centers, and service stations.
By connecting skill training directly with industry demand, the center will help bridge the employment gap in rural regions like Gadchiroli, where job opportunities have traditionally been limited.
Speaking at the inauguration, Vijay Nakra, President of Farm Equipment Business at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., expressed pride and optimism about the project.
“It is a matter of pride for us that Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Mahindra Tractor Skill Development Center in Gadchiroli. Maharashtra is a leading state in agriculture and industry. Together with the state government, we aim to empower rural youth through skills and help them discover new possibilities in life,” said Nakra.
The new skill development center reflects the spirit of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Vocal for Local’, supporting India’s National Skill Development Mission. It seeks to empower youth with self-reliance and generate sustainable employment in rural regions.
For districts like Gadchiroli, this initiative will help create skilled manpower in the tractor and agricultural machinery sector and encourage rural entrepreneurship. By doing so, it aims to contribute to the overall economic development of Maharashtra’s countryside.
Mahindra Tractors, part of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., is India’s largest tractor manufacturer. The company launched its first tractor in 1963, in partnership with International Harvester Inc. (USA). Known for durability, fuel efficiency, and reliability, Mahindra tractors have earned global recognition, including the Deming Award and the Japanese Quality Medal — the only tractor brand worldwide to receive both honors.
In March 2024, Mahindra achieved another milestone by becoming the first Indian company to sell 4 million tractors globally. The brand now operates in over 50 countries, including the US, Brazil, Finland, Turkey, and Japan, with five major manufacturing plants in India. Its portfolio includes over 300 tractor models and a wide range of agricultural machinery and equipment.
The Mahindra Tractors Skill Development Centre in Gadchiroli is expected to transform the lives of rural youth by providing them access to modern technology and industry-relevant skills.
Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the center represents a new chapter of energy, progress, and empowerment for India’s rural heartland — paving the way for a self-reliant and skilled generation that will drive the future of Indian agriculture.
