PM Kusum Yojana: 70,000 Farmers in Haryana to Get Solar Pumps at 75% Subsidy

Key Highlights:

  • 70,000 solar pumps to be provided at 75% subsidy.

  • Pumps range from 3 HP to 10 HP with cost-sharing.

  • ₹600 crore budget allocated for FY 2025-26.

  • 1.58 lakh solar pumps have already been installed in Haryana.

  • Applications are to be submitted on HAREDA's official website.

The Haryana government has taken a major step to promote solar energy in agriculture under the PM Kusum Yojana 2025. Aiming to support farmers with sustainable and affordable irrigation, the state will provide solar pumps to 70,000 farmers at a 75% subsidy.

Solar Energy Push for Farmers

During a review meeting held in Chandigarh, the Chief Minister directed that all agricultural tube wells in the state be connected to solar energy in a phased manner. This will help reduce electricity costs and boost profitability in farming.

The PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan) scheme aims to provide irrigation support through solar power, reducing the dependence on diesel and conventional electricity.

Major Benefits for Farmers and the Environment

  • Farmers will save on electricity bills

  • Diesel pump usage will reduce, benefiting the environment

  • Farming becomes more cost-effective and sustainable

Solar Pump Details and Subsidy Breakdown

Farmers will receive solar pumps between 3 HP to 10 HP, which normally cost around ₹1.41 lakh. However, under the scheme:

  • Farmers pay only 25%

  • 30% subsidy is given by the central government

  • 45% subsidy is covered by the state government

Progress So Far and Future Targets

The scheme has been running in Haryana since 2018-19. So far, 1.58 lakh solar pumps have already been installed. For FY 2025-26, the target is to install 70,000 more solar pumps with a budget of ₹600 crore.

This is expected to be a big move toward making Haryana self-reliant in solar-powered irrigation.

Plans for Solar Power Plants and Infrastructure

A proposal has been made to set up a solar plant on 300 acres of land at Ganni Kheda Gram Panchayat, near Raiwali village in Panchkula. This plant will supply solar energy to agricultural tube wells across the district.

Additionally:

  • HPGCL will identify 5 acres in each district for setting up solar panels for agricultural feeders

  • Solar structures will double up as community halls (Kalyanam Mandapam) in villages that provide land for solar installations

  • Solar panels will also be installed on market sheds and warehouses to power farming operations

Complaint Redressal and Farmer Support

The Chief Minister has instructed officials to act immediately on complaints of solar pump malfunctions. Special camps will be held in villages with repeated issues, and officials will personally connect with farmers to resolve their problems on the spot.

How Farmers Can Apply

The application process under PM Kusum Yojana is completely online and transparent. Interested farmers can apply through the official website of the Haryana New and Renewable Energy Department (HAREDA).

They must provide details such as:

  • Field location

  • Water availability

  • Electricity connection status
