In an effort to revolutionize agriculture in Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has set an ambitious target to connect 30 lakh farmers to solar energy. The initiative aims to help farmers irrigate their fields more efficiently while reducing dependence on conventional electricity sources.
To achieve this, the government is promoting solar-powered irrigation pumps through various central and state schemes. Farmers are also being encouraged to adopt solar energy by offering grants and subsidies. This move not only supports sustainable farming practices but also reduces electricity subsidy burdens on the state.

During a recent review meeting of the Energy Department, the Chief Minister instructed electricity distribution companies to accelerate the installation of smart meters. Over 12.57 lakh smart meters have already been installed across the state under the RDSS scheme. These meters are expected to improve efficiency and reduce power wastage.
The CM also emphasized the need to replace damaged transformers and maintain power lines to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply. “Electricity should be available to farmers during the day to support timely irrigation,” said Dr. Yadav.
A major milestone in Madhya Pradesh’s solar energy journey is the upcoming Solar Power Storage Plant in Morena, the first of its kind in the country. Spanning 3,000 hectares and costing approximately ₹3,500 crore, the plant will have a capacity of 600 MW.
This project will benefit both Madhya Pradesh and neighboring Uttar Pradesh by providing uninterrupted electricity for irrigation and other uses. Additionally, the plant will enhance night-time power availability, helping both farmers and common citizens.

Madhya Pradesh is already a frontrunner in solar energy production. The Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Plant, the largest of its kind in the world, generates 750 MW of electricity. A significant portion of this power is used within the state, while 24% is supplied to the Delhi Metro.
By expanding its solar initiatives, Madhya Pradesh aims to further strengthen its position as a leader in renewable energy.
To achieve the ambitious solar energy goals, the Chief Minister has directed officials to develop a comprehensive action plan with clear deadlines. This will include:
The state’s focus on solar energy will not only empower farmers but also promote sustainable development across Madhya Pradesh, making it an example for other states to follow.
