The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a major relief for farmers ahead of the new year under the Krishak Mitra Surya Yojana. Under this scheme, eligible farmers can install solar-powered irrigation pumps with up to 90% subsidy, making irrigation affordable, reliable, and eco-friendly. The scheme aims to reduce farmers’ dependence on costly electricity, temporary power connections, and frequent power cuts.
Farmers can apply online through the official portal and get solar pumps installed directly on their farms at a very low personal cost.

The Krishak Mitra Surya Yojana has been implemented on the lines of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM). Under this scheme, farmers are provided with a complete solar pump system, which includes:
Solar panels
Motor
Pump
Pipes
Controller
This ensures uninterrupted irrigation using clean energy. Once installed, farmers do not have to worry about electricity bills or power availability, making farming more sustainable and cost-effective.
One of the biggest benefits of this scheme is its heavy subsidy. A solar pump system costing around ₹2 lakh will cost the farmer only ₹15,000. The remaining ₹1.85 lakh is provided as a government subsidy.
This makes the scheme extremely beneficial for small and marginal farmers, who often struggle with high irrigation costs.
According to Harivansh Pandey Deepak, in charge of solar pump installation, farmers will receive a 90% subsidy under this scheme. The subsidy structure is as follows:
50% subsidy from the central government
40% subsidy from the state government
10% beneficiary share paid by the farmer
The beneficiary share includes all components required for the solar pump system.
The Madhya Pradesh government is offering solar pumps ranging from 5 HP to 10 HP. Below are the approximate costs after subsidy, which farmers need to pay from their own pocket:
2 HP solar pump: Around ₹15,000
3 HP solar pump: Around ₹20,000
5 HP solar pump: Around ₹30,000
7.5 HP solar pump: Around ₹41,000
10 HP solar pump: Around ₹58,000
These prices are after subsidy, significantly reducing the financial burden on farmers.
The scheme is mainly for farmers who:
Have temporary electricity connections, or
Do not have any electricity connection
However, the farmer must have a water source on their land for installing a solar pump.
Currently, new applications are being accepted only from farmers who took temporary electricity connections during 2023–24 and 2024–25.

Eligible farmers can apply online by visiting the official portal: cmsolarpump.mp.gov.in
During the application process, the following details are verified:
Aadhaar e-KYC
Pump category
Electricity connection ID
Unit and pump capacity selection
Farmers must ensure all details are correct to avoid delays.
The scheme also allows farmers to opt for higher-capacity solar pumps based on their irrigation needs:
Farmers with a 3 HP temporary connection can choose a 5 HP solar pump
Farmers with a 5 HP connection can choose a 7.5 HP solar pump
Farmers opting for higher capacity pumps will need to pay the prescribed beneficiary share, which can be selected directly on the portal.
Farmers applying for a solar pump for the first time can also select from multiple pump capacities available on the portal. This helps farmers choose the most suitable pump based on their land size, crops, and water requirements.
The central government will issue work orders by December 31, 2025. To ensure the timely installation of solar pumps, farmers are advised to deposit their beneficiary share as soon as possible. Payment delays may lead to delays in pump installation.
