The ration card is a vital document for Indian citizens. It not only helps you access subsidized food items under government schemes, but also serves as an essential proof for various welfare programs. If your name or any family member’s name is missing from the ration card, you should get it added immediately.
The good news is that you no longer need to stand in long queues or visit government offices. The government has launched the Mera Ration 2.0 app that allows you to add a name to your ration card online from the comfort of your home. This app is available for download on the Google Play Store.

Adding your or a family member’s name to the ration card ensures you get:
Subsidized food items like grains, pulses, sugar, and coarse grains.
Access to welfare schemes such as:
Scholarships
Pension Schemes
Proof of identity for availing of several other government benefits.
That’s why it’s important to ensure every eligible family member is listed in the ration card.
Keeping your ration card updated helps avoid problems while applying for government schemes. The ration card is used to verify eligibility for benefits. If the card is not updated or if your name is missing, you may be removed from the beneficiary list or lose out on subsidies.
The government conducts periodic KYC (Know Your Customer) processes to keep ration card records accurate. That’s why it is necessary to make updates like name corrections, member additions, or contact detail linking as needed.
