Affordable Irrigation with Subsidized Electricity

The Bihar government has launched this program to help farmers who are struggling with irrigation issues. Under the scheme, farmers will receive free electricity connections for agricultural pumps powered by solar panels. The goal is to improve crop production by ensuring timely irrigation. The state has already provided over 5 lakh agricultural electricity connections and aims to provide a total of 8.40 lakh connections by September 2026.

Electricity at Just 55 Paise Per Unit

As part of the scheme, the state government is offering a substantial subsidy on electricity rates. While the regular agricultural electricity rate is Rs 6.74 per unit, the subsidy brings the cost down to just 55 paise per unit for farmers. This affordable rate is expected to help farmers irrigate their fields without financial strain.
