India's commercial vehicle industry is preparing for a major safety upgrade as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) becomes mandatory for trucks from 2027. Strengthening its position in this transition, ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Limited has secured new business from three leading commercial vehicle manufacturers in the country.

ZF Bags Multi-Year ESC Supply Contracts

ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Limited has received business nominations from three major Indian commercial vehicle original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to supply its ESCsmart Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system.

The multi-year agreements cover multiple truck platforms operating on both 12V and 24V electrical architectures. According to the company, serial production of these systems is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2027.

Orders Come Ahead of Mandatory ESC Regulation

The new contracts come at an important time for the Indian commercial vehicle industry. Under the Automotive Industry Standards (AIS), Electronic Stability Control will become mandatory on trucks from October 1, 2027.

This regulation is expected to significantly improve road safety by helping trucks maintain stability and reducing the risk of skidding, rollover, and loss of control during emergency situations.

Local Manufacturing to Support Indian Market

ZF confirmed that all ESC units supplied under these agreements will be assembled locally in India. Manufacturing will take place at the company's Indian production facilities, supporting domestic production while meeting future regulatory requirements.

Local assembly is also expected to help OEMs ensure timely availability of ESC systems as the mandatory implementation date approaches.

ZF to Support OEM Integration

Commenting on the development, Paramjit Singh Chadha, Managing Director of ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Limited, said that vehicle stability technologies are rapidly evolving from optional features to essential regulatory requirements in the commercial vehicle segment.

He added that the company will assist OEMs throughout the integration process by leveraging its local engineering teams, manufacturing capabilities, and dedicated ESC validation test track in India.

Industry Moving Towards Advanced Safety Technologies

Speaking on the achievement, Akash Passey, Non-Executive Chairman of ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Limited, said the new supply nominations reflect the industry's growing shift towards active safety technologies as the 2027 implementation deadline draws closer.

Strong Presence in India and Global Markets

ZF's ESC technology already has a significant footprint in the country. The company said its ESC systems are currently installed in more than 60,000 vehicles across India.

Globally, ZF has supplied over three million ESC units, highlighting its extensive experience in developing and delivering advanced vehicle safety systems for commercial vehicles.
