Volvo to Launch Long-Range FH Electric Truck in 2025

Key Highlights:

  • Volvo will launch a new long-range FH Electric truck next year with a range of up to 600 km per charge.
  • The new model will be available for sale in the second half of 2025.
  • This truck will support interregional and long-distance routes, enabling a full working day without recharging.
  • Volvo Trucks, a leader in electric trucks, has delivered over 3,800 electric trucks to 46 countries.
  • The company aims for net-zero emissions by 2040 through a strategy involving battery electric, fuel cell electric, and renewable fuel-powered engines.

Volvo will launch a new long-range version of its FH Electric truck next year. This new electric truck will be capable of traveling up to 600 kilometers on a single charge. This will enable transportation companies to operate electric trucks on interregional and long-distance routes and travel for an entire working day without recharging.

The Volvo FH Electric will be available in the second half of 2025, complementing the company's electric truck range and allowing for zero-emission transportation over larger distances.

"It will be an excellent solution for transportation firms with significant yearly miles on their vehicles and a strong commitment to reducing CO2 emissions," said Roger Alm, President Volvo vehicles.

Volvo has supplied over 3,800 electric trucks to customers in 46 countries across the world. Volvo Trucks is the global leader in medium- and heavy-duty electric trucks, with eight battery-electric models in its lineup. The diverse product portfolio enables electrification of local and regional distribution, construction, waste management, and, in the near future, long-distance transportation.

"The transportation sector contributes 7% of global carbon emissions. Battery-electric trucks are key tools for reducing the carbon impact. Aside from the significant environmental benefits that electric vehicles bring, they provide truck drivers with a considerably better working environment, with significantly lower levels of noise and vibration," stated Roger Alm.

Volvo Trucks is utilizing a three-path technological plan to accelerate the transition to fossil-free transportation and meet its net-zero emissions target by 2040.

The three-path technology method is based on battery electric, fuel cell electric, and combustion engines that use renewable fuels such as green hydrogen, biogas, or HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil).

CMV360 Says

The introduction of the Volvo FH Electric with a 600-kilometer range is a practical solution for addressing the issue of electric truck range on long routes. This new model will make it easier for transport companies to adopt electric trucks for longer journeys, providing a more viable option for those looking to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels.
