Key Highlights:
In a major step towards clean mobility, the Telangana government has approved the use of auto LPG as a legal fuel for 40,000 new eco-friendly autorickshaws within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) of Hyderabad. This move supports India’s goal of reducing vehicle emissions and improving urban air quality.
Indian Auto LPG Coalition Welcomes the Move
The Indian Auto LPG Coalition (IAC) praised Telangana's decision, calling it a positive step for cleaner air in cities. The IAC also urged the central and other state governments to include auto LPG in their clean fuel plans. According to IAC, using a mix of fuels like CNG, electricity, biofuels, and auto LPG is key to achieving sustainable mobility. Since India has over 33 crore petrol and diesel vehicles, phasing them out entirely is not possible soon. However, converting them to cleaner fuels like auto LPG is a more practical and affordable solution.
Auto LPG: A Clean and Affordable Option
Auto LPG is widely used in many countries. It is cost-effective, easy to find, and helps reduce harmful pollutants like particulate matter and carbon monoxide. IAC said such fuels can quickly lower emissions, especially in cities struggling with poor air quality.
IAC Director General Supports Telangana's Decision
Suyash Gupta, Director General of IAC, called Telangana’s decision a timely step in fighting urban pollution. He said that including auto LPG in fuel policies not only reduces emissions but also boosts India’s energy security by offering more fuel choices. He added that World Environment Day is the right time for leaders to support clean fuel efforts and help cities become safer and more sustainable through retrofitting vehicles.
Support for Vehicle Restrictions in Delhi
IAC also supported the decision by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to stop adding new petrol and diesel vehicles to aggregator and e-commerce fleets in Delhi-NCR from January 1, 2026. IAC said this will help reduce pollution in one of India’s most affected regions.
IAC shows its commitment to working with industries and governments to promote clean fuels and sustainable transport. It urged policymakers to act fast, especially in crowded cities with high pollution levels. Telangana’s move is a strong example of how auto LPG can be part of a cleaner, healthier future.

Telangana’s decision to allow auto LPG for 40,000 new autorickshaws is a practical and positive step toward reducing urban pollution. With rising air quality concerns in cities like Hyderabad, promoting cleaner fuels can make a real difference. Auto LPG is cost-effective and widely accessible, making it easier for vehicle owners to adopt without high expenses.
