Tata Motors unveils LPO 1822 intercity bus chassis with full-air suspension
Powered by a 5.6L Cummins engine delivering 220 HP and 925 Nm torque
Flexible 36–50 seater and sleeper layout options available
Includes a 4-year complimentary Fleet Edge subscription for smart diagnostics
Supported by Sampoorna Seva 2.0 with 4,500+ service touchpoints
Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles has introduced its latest intercity bus chassis, the LPO 1822, marking a major step in long-distance passenger transport technology. The new chassis is designed to deliver superior comfort, improved efficiency, and enhanced reliability for operators across India’s growing highway network.
The Tata LPO 1822 bus chassis features full-air suspension that ensures a smoother ride for both passengers and drivers. It has been engineered with low noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels, improving the overall travel experience during long journeys.
The chassis supports flexible seating configurations ranging from 36 to 50 seats and even includes sleeper layout options. These options make it suitable for a wide range of intercity and tourist transport needs, catering to both private fleet operators and state transport corporations.
The LPO 1822 is powered by a 5.6-litre Cummins diesel engine, delivering 220 horsepower and 925 Nm of torque. Tata Motors highlights that this engine offers a fine balance between power and fuel efficiency, ideal for sustained intercity operations.
The platform also serves as the base for the Tata Magna Coach, a premium intercity bus variant built to offer elevated comfort and performance standards.
As part of the launch, Tata Motors is offering a complimentary four-year subscription to its connected vehicle platform, Fleet Edge. This digital platform provides operators with real-time diagnostics, predictive maintenance, and data-driven insights to optimise fleet management and uptime.
Fleet Edge enhances operational efficiency by helping transport companies monitor vehicle health and performance through cloud-based connectivity.
According to Anand S, Vice President and Head of Commercial Passenger Vehicle Business at Tata Motors, the LPO 1822 is a response to India’s evolving transport landscape.
He stated, “India’s intercity transport ecosystem is transforming, driven by rising connectivity and growing passenger expectations. The LPO 1822 combines superior ride quality, engineering, and intelligent features to meet these new demands.”
Tata Motors continues to strengthen its aftersales network through Sampoorna Seva 2.0, a comprehensive lifecycle support initiative. The program includes maintenance services, genuine spare parts, and 24x7 breakdown assistance. With over 4,500 sales and service touchpoints across India, the brand ensures nationwide coverage and dependable support for fleet operators.
Part of the USD 180 billion Tata Group, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles offers a wide range of passenger and cargo transport solutions, spanning 9 to 55-seater models. Its lineup includes vehicles powered by diesel, CNG, LNG, and electric powertrains, showcasing the company’s commitment to diverse mobility needs and sustainable solutions.
The company is also in the process of a name change and relisting to Tata Motors Limited, following a Composite Scheme of Arrangement approved by India’s National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).
The Tata LPO 1822 sets a new benchmark in India’s intercity bus segment with its full-air suspension, fuel-efficient engine, and smart fleet connectivity. By combining comfort, technology, and strong after-sales support, Tata Motors continues to reinforce its leadership in the passenger mobility space and its commitment to India’s evolving transport ecosystem.
