Key Highlights:
SWITCH Mobility has delivered 100 electric vehicles to the Indore Municipal Corporation. These vehicles, known as SWITCH IeV3, will now be used for the city's waste collection duties. They are expected to replace the older diesel-run waste vehicles. This move is part of Indore’s goal to strengthen its clean and green image.
Key Features of the SWITCH IeV3
The SWITCH IeV3 is perfect for municipal waste handling. It can carry both wet and dry waste, making it suitable for everyday urban operations. The EVs are also quieter and produce no tailpipe emissions, making them ideal for reducing city pollution. The vehicles come with SWITCH iON, a digital platform that helps in monitoring and managing the fleet. This platform supports real-time tracking, predictive maintenance, and better route planning to make operations smoother and more cost-effective.
Support from Leaders
The handover ceremony took place in the presence of Kailash Vijayvargiya, the Urban Development and Housing Minister, and Pushyamitra Bhargav, the Mayor of Indore. Their presence highlighted the importance of this project in the city’s development journey.
A Step Towards Sustainable Cities
Indore has long been recognised as India’s cleanest city. These electric vehicles add to the city’s ongoing green efforts. Using EVs for waste collection helps lower carbon emissions and boosts the overall efficiency of municipal services.
About SWITCH Mobility
SWITCH Mobility is a joint venture between Ashok Leyland (India) and Optare (UK). The company has already deployed more than 1,250 electric buses across the globe. These buses have covered over 150 million kilometers in total. In 2024, SWITCH introduced its IeV Series, focusing on electric light commercial vehicles for last-mile delivery and municipal use. The series has seen more than 1,000 units already in use.
Recognition and Growth
SWITCH Mobility has received several awards for its work in clean transportation, including 'Company of the Year' and 'Star Electric Bus of the Year'. Its consistent efforts have made it one of the top EV manufacturers for public services.
The shift to electric vehicles in waste management is part of a larger global trend. Many cities are now adopting electric fleets as battery performance improves and costs go down. Replacing diesel vehicles with EVs in daily city operations is proving to be a practical and clean solution.
