Jindal Stainless has deployed 10 electric trucks for finished goods transportation for the first time, marking another step towards greener logistics in India. The electric trucks will operate on routes connecting the company’s Jajpur plant in Odisha with Kharagpur and Kolkata in West Bengal.
Announced on October 15, 2026, the initiative is part of the company’s phased transition towards electric and alternative-fuel vehicles. Jindal Stainless expects its green transportation initiatives to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 71 tonnes per month compared with diesel-based transportation.
Jindal Stainless Expands Electric and Alternative-Fuel Fleet
Along with its newly deployed electric trucks, Jindal Stainless is increasing the use of alternative fuels across its logistics network. The company currently operates 80 liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks to transport finished goods from its Jajpur and Hisar facilities to western India. It has also started deploying compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks to transport import cargo from Dhamra port to its Jajpur plant.
In addition, the company operates 60 CNG buses for employee transportation at its Hisar and Jajpur facilities. Together, these electric and alternative-fuel transportation initiatives are expected to handle approximately 8,000 to 10,000 tonnes of cargo every month.
Green Logistics to Reduce Carbon Emissions
According to Jindal Stainless, its green dispatch programme is modelled around a monthly cargo volume of 8,000 to 9,000 tonnes and an equivalent truck travel distance of approximately 240,000 km.
Under regular operating conditions, these operations are expected to save around 71 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every month, representing an estimated 26% reduction compared with diesel-based transportation. The initiative highlights the company's efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its supply chain while maintaining efficient goods transportation.
Company Plans to Expand Green Mobility
Jindal Stainless Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal said the company's decarbonisation efforts extend beyond manufacturing to logistics and supply chain operations. He added that the company would continue adopting scalable, lower-emission transportation solutions while maintaining operational efficiency.
Jindal Stainless plans to expand electric and alternative-fuel vehicle deployment across suitable logistics routes, depending on the operational requirements of individual corridors. The green mobility programme is part of the company's broader environmental strategy, which includes improving energy efficiency, increasing the use of renewable energy and strengthening resource circularity across its operations.
