Key Highlights:
SANY India has launched the country's first locally manufactured hybrid mining dump truck at its Pune facility. The SKT130S is a 100-ton capacity truck and marks a major step in India's mining equipment industry. This new dump truck comes with a 925 kW engine that produces 3200 Nm of torque. It has a payload capacity of 100 tons and a heaped body capacity of 61 cubic meters. The company says its hybrid system can save 20-25% in fuel compared to regular mining trucks.
It also has a regenerative braking system that charges its high-voltage battery while going downhill. The truck also features an intelligent control module and a 10-inch central control screen for navigation and operational monitoring. For safety, the cabin is certified with FOPS/ROPS (Falling Object Protective Structure/Roll-Over Protective Structure).
"The launch of the SKT130S shows our dedication to providing high-performance, efficient, and safe solutions to meet the changing needs of the industry. By focusing on localization, we support India's manufacturing vision while introducing advanced technology to improve productivity in mining operations," said Deepak Garg, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of SANY India and South Asia.
Local Manufacturing and Expansion
SANY India set up its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune, in 2012 with an investment of over INR 1000 crores. The facility supports various business sectors, including earth moving, lifting, foundation, mining, ports, concrete, roads, and renewable energy solutions. The company has also developed a network of around 42 dealers and 300 touch points across India.
Supporting "Make in India"
Industry analysts highlight that the local manufacturing of specialized mining equipment supports the government's "Make in India" initiative, which aims to turn India into a global manufacturing hub. SANY officials have mentioned that they are working on further localizing key components for the truck. Currently, SANY has over 35,000 machines operating across India and South Asia, playing a significant role in various infrastructure development projects in the region.
The mining sector in India is focusing on more efficient and environmentally sustainable equipment as the country seeks to meet its growing energy demands while considering environmental factors. Hybrid vehicles are seen as a transitional technology, helping the heavy equipment industry move toward lower-emission alternatives.

SANY India's launch of the hybrid mining dump truck shows a strong focus of the company on improving efficiency and sustainability in the mining sector. The truck’s hybrid system, which offers fuel savings, addresses a key need in the mining sector, where cost management and environmental impact are crucial concerns. With features like the intelligent control module and safety certifications, SANY is prioritizing both performance and worker safety.
