Key Highlights:
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off 200 electric buses in Delhi. These buses have been made by PMI Electro Mobility and will run in different parts of the city. The goal is to reduce air pollution and move towards cleaner public transport options in the country.
Planting Trees to Honour Mothers and Nature
Along with the electric buses, the Prime Minister also launched a new campaign called Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam. As part of this, he planted a Banyan tree sapling at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park. This campaign encourages people to plant at least one tree in honour of nature. It is also a reminder of the deep connection between nature and family.
Seed Cards to Encourage Public Participation
To make the campaign more active, PMI Electro Mobility distributed 10,000 seed cards. These cards contain basil and wildflower seeds and can be planted directly into the soil. The seeds are expected to sprout within two weeks. People were invited to take selfies while planting the seeds and post them on LinkedIn by tagging PMI. This was done to motivate more people to take part in the green mission.
More Electric Buses on Indian Roads
With this new launch, PMI now has over 2,500 electric buses running in 31 cities across India. These buses are expected to save more than 250,000 metric tons of carbon emissions every year. Over their lifetime, they could save over 3 million metric tons. This will protect the environment.
PMI Electro Mobility has been supporting clean mobility through its Green Routes programme. The CEO of the company, Dr. Aanchal Jain, said it was a proud moment to have their buses launched by the Prime Minister. She also added that the company would continue to work towards building a cleaner and greener future for India.
