Mahindra Scorpio N Pickup: Exterior Design

The production-spec Scorpio N pickup will retain the rugged design approach seen on the Global Pik Up concept while adding features suited to a premium lifestyle pickup.

The teaser reveals L-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs) along with slim LED headlamps. The front also gets vertically stacked fog lamps and a hexagonal grille, giving the pickup a distinctive appearance.

At the rear, the pickup features C-shaped LED tail-lamps and a large tailgate carrying prominent Mahindra lettering. Its double-cab layout is paired with a longer wheelbase and a large rear load bed, giving it both lifestyle appeal and practical utility.

Scorpio N Pickup Interior Features

The cabin combines modern digital technology with physical controls. It gets a portrait-oriented central touchscreen and a digital driver’s display, along with a three-spoke steering wheel.

The dashboard also features rotary climate-control switches and a dedicated drive-mode selector, suggesting that Mahindra is focusing on both convenience and off-road usability.

Mahindra had earlier indicated that the production pickup could come with several advanced features, including Level 2 autonomous driving technology, semi-automatic parking, 5G connectivity and a sunroof. The company is expected to reveal the complete feature list at the August 14 unveiling.

Platform and 4WD System

The new pickup will use a modified version of the Scorpio N platform. Its wheelbase has been extended to accommodate the longer load bed and the requirements of a pickup body.

Mahindra has also confirmed that the vehicle will use a next-generation ladder-frame architecture developed to meet Global NCAP and Euro NCAP crash-test requirements.

Four-wheel drive will be available, along with multiple terrain modes. This setup is expected to improve the pickup’s capability across different road and off-road conditions.

Engine and Transmission Details

Mahindra has not yet revealed the complete powertrain specifications of the production model. However, the company has previously confirmed that the pickup will use a second-generation, all-aluminium mHawk diesel engine.

The diesel engine will be paired with six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmission options. A 4WD system will be offered with multiple terrain modes.

The 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine currently used in the Scorpio N is also expected to be offered in selected international markets. More details about engine outputs, fuel efficiency and exact market-wise powertrain options are likely to be announced during the global debut.

Mahindra Targets the Lifestyle Pickup Segment

The Scorpio N pickup marks a major step in Mahindra’s push into the premium lifestyle pickup segment. In India, the Toyota Hilux currently holds an important position in this category.

Mahindra already has considerable experience in the pickup market through models such as the Bolero Camper and Bolero Pik-Up, which are primarily positioned as commercial vehicles. The company has also previously sold the Scorpio Getaway to private buyers.

However, the upcoming Scorpio N pickup is a more significant move towards the lifestyle and premium end of the segment. With its modern design, advanced technology, 4WD capability and longer wheelbase, Mahindra could use the new model to attract customers looking for a pickup that combines everyday usability with off-road and recreational capabilities.

What to Expect on August 14

With the production version now officially confirmed, the August 14 global debut will provide the first complete look at Mahindra’s new lifestyle pickup. The unveiling is expected to reveal its final specifications, features, engine details, dimensions, market positioning and Mahindra’s strategy for the model.

Derived from the 2023 Global Pik Up concept, the Scorpio N pickup is set to extend Mahindra’s lifestyle vehicle portfolio with a longer-wheelbase ladder-frame platform, 4WD capability and a premium double-cab configuration.
