Mahindra Tractors has completed three years of its OJA platform, highlighting the increasing adoption of compact and lightweight 4WD tractors for specialised farming in India. Designed for high-value agricultural applications, the OJA range focuses on areas such as horticulture, vineyards, orchards, sugarcane and row-crop cultivation.
Launched in 2023 as Mahindra's global lightweight 4WD tractor platform, OJA was developed to meet the changing needs of modern farming. The company says the platform combines compact design, advanced technology, precision and automation to help farmers improve productivity and operational efficiency.
Unlike conventional tractors mainly designed for general field operations, the Mahindra OJA range has been developed for specialised agricultural applications where manoeuvrability, precision and compact dimensions are important.
The tractors offer a strong power-to-weight ratio, precision handling and easy manoeuvrability. Their compact size makes them suitable for working in areas with limited space, including orchards, vineyards and row-crop fields.
The range also offers a narrow-track configuration for operation in constrained spaces. All OJA models in this category come with 4WD as standard, helping provide better traction and stability across different terrains. The tractors are also compatible with a wide range of agricultural implements.
Mahindra's OJA Compact platform currently includes four models in the 21-30 HP segment:
The company offers options at intervals of around three to four HP, giving farmers more choices based on their specific crop and application requirements.
According to Mahindra, these tractors have become a preferred choice for farmers involved in horticulture, vineyards, orchards, sugarcane and other specialised farming activities.
The Mahindra OJA 21-30 HP tractor range is powered by a 1331 cc, three-cylinder diesel engine. Depending on the model, power output ranges from 21 HP to 30 HP.
Mahindra's published specifications show maximum torque ranging from 76 Nm to 86 Nm across the four models. The engine has been developed to provide strong performance, fuel efficiency and reliable operation across different farming applications.
The company says the OJA range is also designed to reduce operational expenses per crop cycle while requiring lower maintenance over the tractor's working life.
Mahindra has equipped the OJA platform with several technology features through its PROJA tech pack. These are designed to improve precision, implement operation and ease of use during specialised farming.
Key features include:
Electronic Power Take-off (ePTO)
Electronic Draft and Depth Control (EDDC)
Forward + Reverse (FR) Shuttle Mode
Creeper Mode
These systems can help operators manage implements and perform specialised agricultural tasks with greater control and precision.
The technology package on the OJA platform goes beyond productivity features.
The MYOJA tech pack integrates telematics into the tractor range, adding connected functions for users. Meanwhile, the optional ROBOJA tech pack introduces automation-focused features, including:
Auto PTO
Auto Implement Lift
Auto One-Side Braking
With telematics and automation available on a compact tractor platform, Mahindra is targeting farmers looking for technology-led mechanisation solutions.
Mahindra has also given special attention to operator comfort, particularly for farmers and operators working long hours.
The OJA range features tilt and telescopic steering, which Mahindra describes as an industry-first. It also includes side-shift controls and an ergonomic control layout.
These features are intended to make important controls easier to access and allow operators to adjust their driving position more comfortably, helping reduce fatigue during extended working hours.
The OJA platform was jointly developed by the engineering teams at Mahindra Research Valley in India and Mitsubishi Mahindra Agricultural Machinery in Japan.
Mahindra originally introduced OJA as a global lightweight 4WD platform designed for both Indian and international markets. Its architecture is capable of supporting more than 40 tractor models across farming and non-farming applications.
The broader OJA family includes four platforms covering the 20-70 HP range:
Sub-Compact
Compact
Small Utility
Large Utility
The Compact platform covers the 21-30 HP tractor category.
Mahindra developed the OJA platform with an international focus. The platform is intended for markets including India, North America, Japan, ASEAN countries, Brazil, Australia, South Africa, Europe and the SAARC region.
Its common global architecture allows the company to use core engineering across multiple tractor models and applications while adapting products to different market requirements.
Mahindra is offering the OJA range with an industry-best six-year warranty. The long-term warranty coverage complements the company's focus on durability, reliability, lower maintenance requirements and operating efficiency.
The warranty is also aimed at providing additional confidence to customers choosing the compact 4WD tractor range for specialised agricultural operations.
Harsh Rai, CEO, Mahindra Tractors, said the future of farming lies in specialised and technology-led solutions that can help farmers improve productivity and profitability.
He highlighted the rapid growth of India's horticulture and specialised farming segments and said the need for purpose-built mechanisation is becoming increasingly important. According to Rai, the OJA platform has, over the last three years, combined world-class engineering, innovation and customer insights to address the evolving requirements of modern agriculture.
He added that Mahindra will continue focusing on globally benchmarked and future-ready products that help farmers achieve more from every acre.
Parikshit Ghosh, Sr. Vice President and Head of Marketing & National Business Operations, Mahindra Tractors, said the OJA range has established itself among farmers engaged in horticulture, vineyards, orchards, sugarcane and other specialised applications.
He noted that the multiple models, with options available at every three to four HP points, are part of Mahindra's focus on providing application-specific solutions that can help farmers operate more efficiently and profitably.
The completion of three years of the OJA platform highlights the growing importance of compact tractors in specialised agriculture. With 21-30 HP models, standard 4WD, narrow-track capability, electronic controls, telematics, optional automation and strong implement compatibility, the range is designed for applications where manoeuvrability and precision are as important as tractor power.
Mahindra's broader OJA strategy combines lightweight design with advanced engineering and technology-led features to support specialised crop cultivation. As high-value farming segments continue to expand, the company is positioning the OJA platform as a purpose-built compact 4WD solution for farmers seeking better productivity, efficiency and profitability.
Mahindra OJA's three-year journey highlights the growing demand for compact 4WD tractors in specialised farming. With 21-30 HP models, advanced technology, automation, telematics, narrow-track capability and a six-year warranty, the range targets modern agricultural needs. Developed by Indian and Japanese engineering teams, OJA combines global engineering with application-specific solutions, helping farmers improve precision, productivity, operational efficiency and profitability across horticulture, orchards, vineyards and other specialised crops.
